TSUM VALLEY TREK 10 DAYS

The Tsum Valley Trek – 10 Days is a carefully crafted Himalayan adventure tailored for trekkers wanting to explore one of Nepal’s most remote and culturally rich regions. Organized by Sherpa Expedition, this trek focuses solely on the Tsum Valley, renowned for its deep-rooted Tibetan Buddhist heritage, pristine landscapes, and ancient monasteries.

The journey begins with a scenic private jeep drive from Kathmandu to Jagat, lasting around 8 to 10 hours. This route showcases Nepal’s diverse beauty as you pass through lush river valleys, traditional rural villages, and verdant hills before reaching Jagat, the gateway to the Manaslu Conservation Area.

From Jagat, the trek commences with a steady ascent through Lokpa, leading into the mystical heart of the Tsum Valley. The trail from Lokpa to Chumling, the gateway to the Lower Tsum Valley, reveals a rich tapestry of Tibetan Buddhist culture, marked by ancient mani walls, sacred chortens, and colorful prayer flags.

Continuing upward, the path takes you to Chhokang Paro (also known as Chekampar), a charming village surrounded by dramatic Himalayan peaks. This village is inhabited by locals who have preserved their traditional lifestyle, offering trekkers an authentic cultural encounter.

A major highlight of the trek is the visit to Mu Gompa, the trek’s highest point at approximately 3,700 meters. Mu Gompa is one of the oldest and most revered Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the valley. Located near the Tibetan border, it provides awe-inspiring views of the Ganesh Himal and Shringi Himal mountain ranges, coupled with a profound spiritual ambiance.

After exploring Mu Gompa, the return journey retraces the route back through Chhokang Paro to Chumling and Lokpa. Along the way, trekkers enjoy serene natural surroundings, authentic village life, and warm local hospitality.

The trek concludes in Jagat, where a private jeep awaits to transfer you back to Kathmandu, completing your 10-day Himalayan expedition.

This itinerary is ideal for trekkers seeking a remote, culturally immersive, and spiritually enriching experience away from Nepal’s more crowded trekking routes. Sherpa Expedition handles all logistics, including permits like the Tsum Valley Restricted Area Permit and the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit, ensuring a seamless and stress-free journey.

Whether you are an experienced trekker or a traveler seeking solitude and cultural depth, this 10-day Tsum Valley Trek offers an unforgettable opportunity to discover one of Nepal’s most hidden Himalayan treasures.

Day 1 : Drive from Kathmandu to Jagat (1,300m) — 10 to 12 hours.

Your adventure begins with a private jeep ride from the bustling city of Kathmandu to Jagat, the gateway to the Tsum Valley. The journey takes about 10 to 12 hours and is a scenic introduction to Nepal’s diverse landscapes — winding roads, terraced fields, rivers, and quaint villages. This long but captivating drive prepares you for the remote wilderness ahead and offers plenty of opportunities to spot rural life and nature’s beauty.

Day 2 : Trek from Jagat to Lokpa (1,800m) — 5 to 6 hours.

Today marks the start of your trek on foot. You leave Jagat behind and follow a gradually ascending trail through dense pine forests, alongside rivers and waterfalls. Lokpa is your destination, perched at 1,800 meters. This village is the official entry point to the restricted Tsum Valley, where nature remains pristine and the Tibetan Buddhist culture thrives undisturbed.

Day 3 : Trek from Lokpa to Chumling (2,390m) — 5 to 6 hours.

As you continue deeper into Lower Tsum Valley, the landscape becomes more dramatic. The trail passes traditional Tibetan-style villages, mani walls inscribed with Buddhist prayers, and colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind. Chumling is a charming village that offers a profound cultural immersion with its ancient monasteries, traditional houses, and warm-hearted locals.

Day 4 : Trek from Chumling to Chokhangparo (3,010m) — 4 to 5 hours.

The trek today gets steeper as you climb into the Upper Tsum Valley. Chokhangparo, at over 3,000 meters, is a picturesque village surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks such as Ganesh Himal and Shringi Himal. Here, you’ll explore old monasteries and sacred mani walls, experiencing the tranquil lifestyle of this remote Himalayan community.

Day 5 : Trek from Chokhangparo to Nile (3,361m) — 5 to 6 hours.

Continue trekking through rugged terrain to Nile, a serene hamlet nestled in the high valley. The mountain views become even more spectacular, offering breathtaking panoramas of snow-capped peaks. Prepare for tomorrow’s spiritual highlight as you rest amidst the peaceful mountain air.

Day 6 : Visit Mu Gompa (3,700m) & return to Nile — 4 to 5 hours.

Today’s highlight is a visit to Mu Gompa, one of the oldest and largest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the Tsum Valley. Situated at 3,700 meters, this sacred site provides a serene spiritual atmosphere where you can witness monks in prayer, explore ancient murals, and take in sweeping views of the Ganesh Himal and Shringi Himal ranges. After soaking in the spiritual energy, you return to Nile to relax.

Day 7 : Trek from Nile to Chumling (2,386m) — 6 to 7 hours.

Begin your descent back toward the Lower Tsum Valley. The trail takes you through peaceful forests and quaint villages where time seems to stand still. The gradual descent is easier on the legs and allows you to reflect on the experiences and sights you’ve encountered so far.

Day 8 : Trek from Chumling to Lokpa (1,800m) — 5 to 6 hours.

Continue trekking down from Chumling, moving through lush forests, terraced fields, and traditional villages. The return to Lokpa offers new perspectives on the valley’s natural beauty and cultural richness.

Day 9 : Trek from Lokpa to Jagat (1,300m) — 5 to 6 hours.

Complete the final leg of your trek with a gentle descent back to Jagat. Enjoy the last views of the Tsum Valley’s stunning landscapes and appreciate the tranquility of this hidden Himalayan gem.

Day 10 : Drive from Jagat to Kathmandu — 10 to 12 hours.

Your unforgettable journey concludes with a jeep ride back to Kathmandu. The drive retraces the scenic route, giving you one last chance to admire Nepal’s diverse landscapes before reaching the capital. Relax and reminisce about your incredible experience exploring the sacred and remote Tsum Valley.
