It is recommended to bring a sleeping bag, though sleeping bags are often available for rent.
Three meals a day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are provided during the trek, typically served in the tea houses. The meals are a mix of local Nepali and Western dishes, with options like dal bhat (rice and lentils), noodles, fried rice, and pancakes. Fresh fruits are also served every evening. Special dietary requirements can be arranged if informed in advance.

The trek is considered moderate in difficulty. It involves several days of uphill and downhill trekking, with a maximum altitude of Gosainkunda Lake at 4,380m. While no technical climbing skills are required, it’s important to have a good fitness level and prepare for altitude acclimatization.
As the trek reaches higher altitudes, it’s important to acclimatize properly to prevent altitude sickness. You’ll have acclimatization days, such as in Kyanjin Gompa, to allow your body to adjust. Drinking plenty of water, taking it slow, and following your guide’s advice will help ensure your safety and well-being.

Essential items to pack for this trek include comfortable trekking boots, layered clothing (for varying temperatures), a sleeping bag, a water bottle, a camera, sunscreen, and a first aid kit. If you don’t have your own trekking poles, walking poles, down jackets, and duffel bags are often available for rent through trekking agencies.
A local guide and porter are highly recommended for this trek. A guide will provide important information about the route, culture, and history of the Tamang community. A porter will carry your heavier gear, making your trek more comfortable. It is common for one porter to assist two trekkers, and both guides and porters are typically insured, licensed, and experienced in trekking at high altitudes.
Tipping is a common practice in Nepal and is expected for guides, porters, and drivers. It’s a way to show appreciation for their hard work and assistance throughout the trek. The amount varies depending on the services provided, but it’s best to ask your trekking agency for recommendations regarding appropriate tipping.
Your health and safety are of utmost importance on this trek. Ensure that you carry basic medical supplies, including a first aid kit. Oxygen meters are sometimes provided to monitor your oxygen levels and pulse at higher altitudes. Make sure to stay hydrated, avoid overexertion, and inform your guide if you feel unwell.
It’s highly recommended to have travel insurance that covers trekking at high altitudes, including emergency evacuation in case of illness or injury. Be sure to check with your insurance provider to ensure adequate coverage for the entire trek duration.
Be mindful of the environment and the local communities during your trek. Follow the Leave No Trace principles, dispose of waste properly, and respect local customs and traditions. By being a responsible trekker, you help preserve the beauty and culture of Nepal for future generations.
