The 7 Days Mardi Himal trekking is a route that has not been opened for long, (This is a newly opened trekking route in Annapurna Region) and attracts fewer trekkers than its more established ‘sisters’. This 10 days trek has all the plus points of other Annapurna regions treks combined with a bit more wilderness and solitude. Mardi Himal trek offers the most spectacular views of Mount Annapurna, Mount Dhaulagiri, Mt. Machhapuchhre, and Mt. Manaslu ranges! Beautiful valleys, rhododendron and bamboo forests, ridge trekking, and the diversity of flora and fauna are only seen in the mountains to make this an interesting glimpse into the biodiversity of the Himalayas. The highest altitude is at Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m), with the rest of the trail never exceeding 3,150m at Low camp.
Mardi Himal trek can be also be extended in length should there be more time. Trekkers visiting Mardi Himal trek can experience High Himalayan ranges, mountain landscapes, natural hot springs, mixed indigenous lifestyle, ancient caves, waterfalls, colorful rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, an abundance of wildlife various, species of flora and fauna- truly wilderness experience in this region.
Sherpa Expedition & Trekking has been in the Trekking and Expedition business for over 40 years and has a reputation second to none. We continue to strive to make the adventure one that you will never forget.
Our journey begins with a 6 to 7-hour drive to Pokhara Valley and its spectacular Phewa Tal (lake) and then checking in to your hotel close to Phewa Tal. There is plenty to keep you busy along Lakeside with many shops, bars, and restaurants. (Option: fly to Pokhara on a 30 minute scenic flight)
A 30-minute drive takes us to Phedi, the starting point of our trek. The trail heads us up stone steps toward Dhampus about 500 meters higher on the ridge. The area around Dhampus is settled by Brahmin, Chhetri, and some Gurung people. After arriving at Dhampus you will have some fantastic views of the Annapurna Ranges. Tonight we stay in Dhampus.
The trek today passes through rhododendron, birch, mountain oak, maple, hemlock, and daphnia shrubs (red & white flowers also known as the paper plant). The overnight stay among the forest is cool and peaceful.
Today there is a noticeable change in vegetation with more cloud and moisture causing the trees to be covered in moss and lichen, with orchids clinging to the trees. It is much cooler and has a more jungle-feel. On occasions you can glance through the trees to the snow-capped mountains of Mt. Machapuchare, Mardi Himal, and the Annapurna Ranges.
An early start takes us to the highest point on this trek which will help you get accustomed to the higher altitude. The majestic peaks look close enough to reach out and touch. The enormous face of the mountain highlights the sheer size of Mardi Himal (5587m). We will trek higher during the day to get a better appreciation of these massive peaks before heading back to High Camp in the evening.
After watching the sunrise and after a hearty breakfast, we head from High Camp to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m) via the viewpoint where you can enjoy amazing snow-clad mountain views. The trail today takes us through cool forest and past terraced farmlands. It is all downhill and not so physically demanding and descends nearly 1400 meters before we come to Low camp. We will stay the night at Low Camp.
Our trail today is again downhill and not as difficult as we descend nearly 1,800 meters before coming to Siding Village. Siding Village is also known for its honey-catchers who hang off ropes on cliff faces to extract honey from wild bee hives. We follow the trail along the banks of the Mardi Khola (river) and cross a few suspension bridges along the way. This landscape is lush and productive for the local farmers in these villages. After lunch, we head back to Pokhara in time for lunch. Mahendra Cave (limestone 152m in length) and David’s Fall are two places you may wish to see after arriving back at Pokhara. You can also choose to hang out at Lakeside and have a few drinks.
The following information will give you some idea about what you need to bring for the trek. It is important you do not forget the essential items, as this will determine your comfort and safety on the trek. Equally important is that you do not burden yourself with unnecessary equipment on the trek.
Toiletries (tissues, toilet paper, moisturizer, lip balm, sunscreen, sanitary pads, hand sanitizer, nail clippers, a small mirror, toothbrush, toothpaste, glasses, contacts, etc.)
You will be accommodated in 3-star hotels in Kathmandu. During the trek, we will be staying at lodges/ teahouses. You may find comfort and better quality teahouses - having attached bathroom at lower levels- until you reach higher elevations, where the accommodation is more basic with bare necessities.
In Kathmandu, your hotel includes breakfast, whereas all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) will be provided during the trek. A staple food of these regions is potatoes, oats, buckwheat, Sherpa stew and Tibetan bread. Sherpa’s’ started farming potatoes when the first seeds were introduced to the region in the early 90s. There is a limited choice of food at higher elevations and except many potato dishes. Potatoes are high in carbohydrates – an excellent source of energy needed at high altitudes.
We use a private car for sightseeing and for the airport to hotel pick and drop off. We use public transportation or local buses during the trek.
This can be a challenging trek where you often have to walk 6-7 hours a day. You don’t need past experience of hiking or trekking but if you have done any kind of trekking activities then it is always a plus! We have met people from all walks of life, shapes and sizes who have completed the trek. The only difficult part is when altitude sickness strikes and the effect that it can have on your body. Before leaving for Nepal it is good if you can prepare yourself physically by increasing your stamina and oxygen intake.

The Mardi Himal Trek is a relatively new and less crowded trekking route in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It takes you to the base camp of Mardi Himal, which offers stunning views of the Annapurna mountain range.
The Mardi Himal Trek usually takes around 7 to 10 days, depending on your pace and itinerary. However, it can be customized to fit your preferences and time constraints.
The best time to do the Mardi Himal Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. The weather is generally clear with mild temperatures, making it ideal for trekking.
The Mardi Himal Trek is considered a moderate trek, suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers. The trail involves some steep ascents and descents, but it is not as challenging as other popular treks in the region, such as the Annapurna Circuit or Everest Base Camp.
While it is not mandatory to have a guide for the Mardi Himal Trek, it is highly recommended, especially if you are not an experienced trekker or unfamiliar with the region. A guide can provide navigation assistance, help with accommodation and permits, and ensure your safety throughout the trek.
To trek in the Annapurna region, you will need two permits: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card. These permits can be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara before starting the trek.
Accommodation during the Mardi Himal Trek is available in teahouses or lodges along the trail. These teahouses provide basic facilities such as a bed, blankets, and meals. However, the facilities may vary, and it is advisable to carry a sleeping bag for added comfort.
Altitude sickness can be a concern on any trek in the Himalayas. The highest point of the Mardi Himal Trek is Mardi Himal Base Camp at an altitude of 4,500 meters. It is essential to acclimatize properly by ascending gradually and staying hydrated to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.
Some essential items to pack for the Mardi Himal Trek include trekking boots, warm clothing, a waterproof jacket, a hat, gloves, a sleeping bag, a backpack, sunscreen, a water bottle, and a first aid kit. It is also recommended to carry some snacks and water purification tablets.
Yes, it is possible to do the Mardi Himal Trek solo. However, as mentioned earlier, having a guide is highly recommended for safety and navigation purposes. If you choose to trek solo, make sure you are well-prepared, physically fit, and have some prior trekking experience.
