MARDI HIMAL TREK 5 DAYS

The Mardi Himal trek offers stunning views of the entire Annapurna region of Nepal. Guided by majestic Himalayan vistas, and visiting traditional villages and world-famous trekking routes, this trek starts and ends in Pokhara, which is a charming city bustling with an energetic atmosphere.

The way to trek to Poonhill offers fascinating scenic views of rolling hills and terraced fields as you head from Pokhara to Kande. The trip commences in a land dominated by rhododendron forests, which seem to be engulfed in aromatic colors in the spring. The luxurious foliage and variety of plant life form a serene environment, perfectly in harmony with your journey.

You will gradually hike up and the scenery will also change with views of the Annapurna mountain range. The journey is blessed with a variety of views; thfsrom the picturesque villages and lush valleys to the glacial lake valley and the stunning mountain hideaways of sacred Machapuchare and Mardi Himal. Every step takes your breath away as you catch snapshots from loads of different view points along the trail.

The Mardi Himal Trek is not only a trek in the wild, but gives us an opportunity to interact with different cultures and lifestyles. You will travel through little villages, whose residents are mainly Gurung and Magar, to be able to discover their culture and tradition of hospitality. The teahouses in the local village are insights into their culture, and a chance to taste some yummy home-cooked meals and have a chat with some very friendly people.

Mardi Himal Trek just adds to the factor of what most trekkers would want to enjoy while in the Himalayas – and that is the off-the-beaten-path aspect of it. And unlike some of the more popular trails in the Annapurna area, this route offers isolation during which you can connect with nature. The calm of the woods, the whispering leaves, and the muted gurgling of distant brooks lend an air of tranquility that adds to the trekking experience.

The most fun part of the trek is climbing up to the Mardi Himal base camp and getting closer to the magnificent view of the surrounding peaks. At the foot of Mardi Himal, the profile of the mountain is simply stunning! The fact that this place is SO remote only adds to the experience and the feeling of achievement once you arrive!

Conclusion Mardi Himal Trek is an inspiring journey itself consists of mesmerizing views, enriched culture, natural beauty and calm. Whether it's the scenic forest of the first climb or the breathtaking vistas of the base camp, each part of this trek is unforgettable. Whether you are a serious trekker or someone who’s here for a bit of mountain fun, the Mardi Himal Trek is an experience that will leave you with images that will be ingrained in your memories for a lifetime.

Day 1 : Drive to Kande and Trek to Forest Camp (2,600m) Duration: 5–7 hours.

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Kande, a small village perched on a ridge with panoramic views of the Annapurna range. From Kande, the trek officially starts as you descend briefly before gradually ascending through beautiful rhododendron forests and terraced fields. The trail winds through lush greenery and traditional villages, offering glimpses of rural life in Nepal. After several hours of trekking, you will reach Forest Camp, nestled at 2,600 meters, where you can relax in a cozy teahouse surrounded by towering trees and mountain views.

Day 2 : Trek from Forest Camp to Badal Danda (3,210m) Duration: 5–6 hours.

Today’s trek takes you higher into the alpine zone. You’ll pass through dense rhododendron and oak forests, with occasional clearings offering spectacular views of Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli peaks. The trail becomes steeper as you approach Badal Danda, a ridge at 3,210 meters, where you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic mountain vistas. This peaceful spot is perfect for soaking in the natural beauty while resting before the final ascent.

Day 3 : Trek from Badal Danda to High Camp (3,550m) Duration: 3–4 hours.

The trek on Day 3 is shorter but steeper, gradually climbing through open alpine terrain with fewer trees and more rocky paths. As you ascend, the air becomes crisp, and the landscape transforms into rugged mountain scenery. Arriving at High Camp, you’ll be treated to outstanding views of the surrounding peaks, including Mardi Himal itself. The teahouse here offers a warm, restful atmosphere in a remote and stunning environment, preparing you for the challenging day ahead.

Day 4 : Hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m) and Trek to Low Camp (3,150m) Duration: 7–9 hours.

This is the most demanding but rewarding day of the trek. Early in the morning, you’ll hike to the Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 meters, standing close to the towering summit. The panoramic views of the Annapurna massif and Machapuchare are truly unforgettable. After spending time at the base camp to take photos and absorb the surroundings, you’ll begin your descent all the way down to Low Camp at 3,150 meters. Though it’s a long day, the changing landscapes—from snow-capped peaks to lush forests—make it an incredible journey.

Day 5 : Trek to Sidding and Drive to Pokhara (850m) Duration: 5–6 hours.

On the final day, you’ll trek down through beautiful forest trails and local villages until you reach Sidding, where your vehicle will be waiting. The drive back to Pokhara offers a relaxing end to your trek with views of terraced fields and the peaceful countryside. Once in Pokhara, you can celebrate the completion of your unforgettable Mardi Himal adventure.

GOOD TO KNOW

Good to Know About the Mardi Himal Trek

Before embarking on the Mardi Himal Trek, it’s essential to understand a few important aspects that will help you prepare and make the most of your adventure. From trail conditions to weather and permits, here’s everything you need to know:

Trek Difficulty

The Mardi Himal Trek is considered a moderate trek, making it suitable for beginners with good fitness levels as well as seasoned trekkers. The trail includes steady ascents and descents, forest paths, and some steeper sections near High Camp and Base Camp. No technical climbing is involved, but stamina and endurance are important.

Best Time to Trek

The best seasons for Mardi Himal are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These months offer clear skies, mild temperatures, and the best views of the Annapurna range. Spring also brings blooming rhododendron forests, while autumn offers dry trails and crisp mountain air. Winter trekking is possible but requires warm gear, while the monsoon season (June–August) brings heavy rain and slippery trails.

Altitude and Acclimatization

The highest point on the trek is Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 meters (14,763 ft). Most trekkers handle the altitude well due to the gradual ascent, but altitude sickness can still be a concern. It's advised to ascend slowly, stay hydrated, and take rest days if needed. Listen to your body and be aware of symptoms like headaches or dizziness.

Permits Required

To trek in the Mardi Himal region, you’ll need two permits:

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

TIMS Card (Trekkers’ Information Management System)
Both can be easily obtained in Pokhara or Kathmandu before your trek.

Accommodation and Food

Accommodation is available in local teahouses along the route. These offer basic rooms with twin beds, warm blankets, and shared bathrooms. The food is home-cooked and includes popular items like dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), noodles, pasta, soups, and eggs. Hot drinks and snacks are also available. Electricity and Wi-Fi are limited or come with a small fee.

Packing Essentials

Pack light but smart. Essentials include layered clothing, a warm jacket, rain protection, sturdy trekking boots, sunblock, a hat, a reusable water bottle, trekking poles, and a sleeping bag (especially in colder months). Don’t forget personal medications, a headlamp, and power banks for charging devices.

Physical Preparation

Although no prior trekking experience is required, being in good shape will make the trek more enjoyable. Regular cardio, uphill walking, or hiking before your trip can help you prepare physically for the trail.

Connectivity and Money

Mobile network coverage is limited and patchy at higher altitudes. Wi-Fi is available in some teahouses for a small fee. Carry enough Nepalese rupees for the entire trek, as there are no ATMs along the route.
