GOKYO RENJO LA PASS TREK 9 DAYS

The Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek is a spectacular 9-day journey through the heart of the Everest region, offering an exhilarating challenge for experienced trekkers. This trek combines stunning landscapes, high-altitude passes, and breathtaking views of some of the world’s highest peaks. It is a perfect choice for those seeking adventure beyond the traditional Everest Base Camp trek.

The adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by a trek through lush valleys and Sherpa villages. The first days are focused on acclimatization, with stops at Phakding, Namche Bazaar, and Dole, giving trekkers a chance to adjust to the increasing altitude while enjoying mesmerizing views of snow-capped peaks. Namche Bazaar is the vibrant heart of the Khumbu region, offering a mix of culture, commerce, and spectacular mountain vistas.

The trek leads to Gokyo, a serene valley surrounded by glacial lakes. The highlight of this trek is the ascent of Gokyo Ri (5,483 meters), which rewards trekkers with panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. From here, you’ll have a rare and close-up view of the Himalayan giants.

The real challenge comes when trekkers cross the Renjo La Pass (5,360 meters), a high-altitude pass known for its rugged terrain and stunning vistas. The descent to Thame offers a chance to relax before the final trek back to Lukla, where the journey ends.

This trek is physically demanding, requiring good fitness and preparation for high-altitude conditions. However, the reward is immense: an unforgettable adventure through the majestic Himalayas with some of the best views in the world.

Day 1 : Fly to Lukla (2,804 m) and Trek to Phakding (2,610 m) Duration: 4-5 hours.

Your adventure begins with an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, a small town in the Everest region. The scenic flight offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas as you approach the airstrip. Upon arrival in Lukla, you will begin your trek toward Phakding, a charming village along the Dudh Koshi River. The trek is relatively easy, passing through lush forests and small Sherpa villages. After a short but rewarding trek, you will reach Phakding, where you’ll rest for the night.

Day 2 : Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,441 m) Duration: 6-7 hours.

Today, the trek becomes more challenging as you ascend toward Namche Bazaar, the bustling heart of the Khumbu region. The trail winds through forests of pine and rhododendron, crossing multiple suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. The last section of the climb is steep, but once you reach Namche, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, and other peaks. Namche Bazaar is a vibrant Sherpa town with a variety of shops, lodges, and restaurants, offering a great place to rest and acclimatize.

Day 3 : Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar.

Acclimatization is crucial at this altitude, and today you will take it easy. Explore Namche Bazaar, visit the Sherpa Museum, and hike to Syangboche for panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. You can also take a short hike to the nearby Everest View Hotel to further help your body adjust to the altitude. A day of rest and light walking will prepare you for the challenging days ahead.

Day 4 : Trek to Dole (4,150 m) Duration: 5-6 hours.

After a restful acclimatization day, you’ll continue your trek toward Dole. The trail from Namche leads through alpine meadows and past several villages, including Mong La, where you’ll enjoy views of Everest and other towering peaks. The trail gradually ascends, and you’ll cross small streams and rocky terrain. Dole is a quiet village, offering stunning views and a peaceful place to rest before heading higher into the mountains.

Day 5 : Trek to Gokyo (4,750 m) Duration: 6-7 hours.

The trek to Gokyo today takes you further into the high-altitude terrain. As you continue through the rugged landscape, you’ll pass through the village of Machhermo and gradually ascend toward Gokyo Valley. Once you reach Gokyo, you’ll be surrounded by pristine glacial lakes and towering peaks, including Cho Oyu, Everest, and Makalu. The tranquil beauty of the area makes it an ideal place to rest and acclimatize before tackling Gokyo Ri.

Day 6 : Hike to Gokyo Ri (5,483 m) & Return to Gokyo Duration: 4-5 hours.

Today, you’ll hike to Gokyo Ri, a summit that offers one of the best panoramic views in the Himalayas. The hike is steep but rewarding, with sweeping vistas of the Everest range, including Mount Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, and the turquoise Gokyo Lakes below. After taking in the breathtaking views, you’ll return to Gokyo for the night, where you can relax and enjoy the serene beauty of the area.

Day 7 : Cross the Renjo La Pass and Trek Down to Thame (3,850 m) Duration: 8-9 hours.

Today is the most challenging day of the trek, as you will cross the Renjo La Pass at an elevation of 5,360 meters. The ascent to the pass is steep and demanding, but the views from the top are worth every step. From the pass, you will be able to see incredible views of Everest, Lhotse, and the surrounding peaks. After reaching the summit, the descent to Thame begins, offering a less strenuous path down into a beautiful Sherpa village. Thame is a peaceful village, where you can rest after a long, challenging day.

Day 8 : Trek to Lukla (2,860 m) Duration: 8-9 hours.

The final trek takes you back to Lukla. The trail descends through alpine forests, passing through several Sherpa villages. As you retrace your steps, you’ll have the opportunity to reflect on your incredible journey. After reaching Lukla, you’ll spend the night there, celebrating the completion of your trek with your team and preparing for your flight back to Kathmandu.

Day 9 : Fly Back to Kathmandu Duration: 30-minute flight.

After breakfast in Lukla, you’ll take a morning flight back to Kathmandu. The scenic flight offers a final view of the majestic mountains you’ve just trekked through.
