As you acclimatize, you’ll witness breathtaking views of some of the world’s highest peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.
The trek gradually ascends to the Gokyo Valley, known for its stunning turquoise lakes surrounded by towering peaks. But the rewards are unmatched: panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and the distant Makalu, along with a sense of achievement that only few trekkers will experience.
After crossing the pass, you descend into the tranquil Gokyo Valley before heading back toward Lukla. The trek includes challenging ascents, rocky trails, and unpredictable weather, making it vital for trekkers to be well-prepared. High-altitude trekking experience, proper acclimatization, and physical fitness are essential for completing this trek safely.
The Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek offers an unforgettable challenge for seasoned adventurers, providing not only incredible views and a sense of accomplishment but also the opportunity to immerse yourself in the remote culture of the Sherpas and the magnificent wilderness of the Everest region.
The adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, a small mountain airstrip nestled in the Everest region. Upon arrival, you will meet your guide and crew, and after a brief rest, start your trek towards Namche Bazaar. The trail initially descends through lush forests and crosses several suspension bridges, offering beautiful views of the Dudh Koshi River. The hike is challenging, with several uphill sections that will test your stamina. After crossing the small village of Monjo, the trail steepens as you make your way to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital. Here, you will spend the night to begin acclimatizing to the altitude.
On the second day, you’ll leave Namche Bazaar behind and continue your trek towards Dole. The trail meanders through dense forests of rhododendron and pine trees, offering occasional glimpses of Everest and other nearby peaks. As you ascend gradually, the landscape changes, and you will begin to experience the remoteness of the region. The trek takes you through smaller villages like Sanasa and Mong, where you can take short breaks. The climb to Dole is steady but demanding, and upon reaching Dole, you’ll rest and acclimatize further to the altitude.
Today, you will trek from Dole to Gokyo, a picturesque village located by the turquoise Gokyo Lakes. The journey starts with a steady ascent along rocky terrain, with excellent views of Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. You will cross the Dudh Koshi River and ascend through steep ridges. The higher you go, the more dramatic the views become, with the towering peaks of the Himalayas surrounding you. Gokyo offers stunning views of the Gokyo Lakes, and as you arrive, you'll feel the excitement of reaching one of the most beautiful places in the Everest region. Rest and acclimatize in Gokyo.
After a restful night in Gokyo, you’ll embark on a challenging hike to Gokyo Ri, a viewpoint offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountain giants, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. The trek is steep and takes around 3-4 hours to reach the summit. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with some of the most breathtaking views in the world. After taking in the sights, you’ll descend back to Gokyo for a well-deserved rest. This acclimatization day will help you prepare for the challenging Renjo La Pass ahead.
This is the most demanding day of the trek. After an early start, you’ll ascend towards the Renjo La Pass (5,360 m). The trek is strenuous, with rocky terrain and thin air, but the views at the top are extraordinary. From the pass, you’ll have panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and other majestic peaks. After savoring the views, you’ll descend toward Thame, a serene village located in a picturesque valley. The descent to Thame is long but less challenging than the ascent. Thame offers a peaceful atmosphere, and you’ll spend the night here.
On the penultimate day, you’ll make your way back to Lukla. The trek back is a combination of both ascents and descents through forests and villages. You’ll pass through the charming villages of Khumjung and Monjo before making your final push toward Lukla. This long day of trekking will bring you back to the bustling town of Lukla, where you’ll spend your last night in the mountains, reflecting on the incredible adventure.
After an early breakfast, you’ll take a short flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu. The flight offers a final opportunity to enjoy stunning views of the Himalayas as you leave the Everest region behind. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be transferred to your hotel, where you can relax and reflect on the unforgettable experience of completing the Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek.
Note: If you return early from the trek due to sickness or any other issue, the costs for flight, hotel, mountain room, and food are non-refundable. You will need to cover the expenses for your accommodation, meals, and other related costs in Kathmandu at your own expense.
