Overview

The Gokyo to Everest Base Camp Trek, also known as the Mt. Everest (8848m) Circuit Trek, is one of the most popular treks in the Himalayas. The trek takes you along a route via the high altitude Cho La Pass (5,420m) to Everest Base Camp. The trek begins at Lukla and then to Phakding and Namche Bazaar. It then proceeds through several villages until arriving at Gokyo, Mt. Everest Base Camp, and finally to Kala Patthar (Black Rock) – a well-known viewpoint from where Everest is clearly visible.

The trail heads through many Sherpa villages along the route. The Sherpa people have a worldwide reputation for their high altitude climbing skills. The trail meanders through the Dudh Koshi Valley to its source at Gokyo Lake (4700m) located to the west of EBC. Another highlight of this trek is to summit Mt. Gokyo Ri (5,375m) from where you have some amazing views of Cho Oyo, Everest, Makalu and many more snow covered peaks. This region is inhabited by mostly Buddhists who follow the Tibetan Buddhist teachings. On the trek we will visit several famous monasteries and get to hear the enchanting prayer mantras.

The trails take you through gorges, lush forests and across mountains before you arrive at EBC. There will be plenty of time allocated to allow you to acclimatize before heading to higher altitudes. Passing through numerous villages in the Khumbu region will give you a first-hand look at what the villagers have to endure to survive in these rugged mountains, and also how their dutiful Tibetan Buddhist faith enriches and affects their lives.

The mountains appear so close that you feel that you can literally reach out to them! Four of the tallest mountains in the world are to be found in this area.

Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will arrange for all permits, meals and accommodation on the trail.

Itinerary

A Sherpa Teams representative will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel by private vehicle. Once you are checked in we will brief you on all aspects of the trek and answer any questions you may have concerning the trek. You will also be provided with a duffel bag and a sleeping bag. At this briefing, you will need to have your passport, three passport size photos and a copy of your travel insurance policy. This is also the time to clear up the balance owing for the trek. You can spend some time wandering around the winding and narrow streets of Thamel and maybe buy some things you need for the trek.

This morning we have a 30 minute early morning fight from Kathmandu domestic airport at Lukla. After landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport we will prepare our packs for the trek. We then head out on the trail and descend down to the Dudh Kosi River where we join with the trail that leads to Namche Bazaar. The trek today is quite easy and not too physically demanding. We then pass through the small village of Ghat (2,550m) and then continue until we reach Phakding where we will stay overnight.

This morning we head to Namche Bazaar (3440m) the largest Sherpa village in Nepal. Prior to arriving at Namche Bazaar we pass through several small villages, such as Jorsale (2804m) and Monjo (2835m). Monjo is located just north of Phakding and is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage listed site. We will stay overnight in a guesthouse.

Today is spent acclimatizing before heading to higher altitudes. Altitude sickness can be minimized by stopping at lower altitudes and staying active - recommended by health professionals. We will take a short trek to a local museum that houses Sherpa artifacts and other cultural items, and also climb up to Syangboche Airport near the Everest View Hotel where the views of the Himalayas and Khumbu peaks will leave you stunned.

On the trail to Tengboche we have some amazing views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. The trail zigzags through the hills until we reach Tengboche where we will stay overnight at a teahouse.

The early morning light at Tengboche provides us with a perfect photo opportunity of the surrounding scenery. On the trail, we pass numerous Chortens and Mani walls and several small villages and will stop for lunch at a village with a reputation for serving delicious food. In the afternoon we head north to Pheriche or alternatively can follow an eastward trail beneath the towering north face of Mt Ama Dablam. The trail is fairly easy-going as we enter the Imja Valley that slowly widens as we get nearer to the Lobuche River. We will then head down to the river and then have a steep climb heading up to Dingboche. Dingboche is unusual in that its fields are surrounded by stone walls, protected them from grazing animals and strong winds, with crops of barley, buckwheat, and potatoes. Tonight we stay at Dingboche.

Today is another very important day on the trek and is dedicated to helping us acclimatize before heading to higher altitudes. A short trek to the Nagarjuna Hills offers some marvelous views of Mt. Makalu and will also help us to acclimatize. Medical experts recommend being active rather than sit idle during this process of acclimatization.

First thing this morning we head to Dughla Village and then cross the steep moraine at the base of the Khumbu Glacier, having to cross slopes strewn with boulders. We continue our ascent to Chupki Lhara that has an array of stones with prayer flags placed as a memorial to climbers Scott Fischer (American) and ten-time Everest summiteer Babu Chiri Sherpa (Nepalese guide) who died while trying to climb Mt. Everest. On the trail to Khumbu Glacier moraine, we notice many huge peaks right before our eyes: Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori, and Mahalangur Himal. This scene will leave you awe-struck.

We are now heading to our final destination, slowly heading to higher elevations and will pass Gorak Shep Lake and then later come to a memorial in honor of the Indian mountaineers who have died on the mountain. Walking now is more physically challenging as a result of the thinner air at this higher altitude. The trail has rocks, moraine, and streams to cross before arriving at EBC. The first thing we see on arrival at EBC is the variety of colorful tents of mountaineers waiting for the right conditions before an attempt on the summit. From EBC we can see Nuptse, Khumbutse, and Pumori and the snow gleaming on their peaks. After a rest and look around EBC we head back to Gorak Shep for a well earned night’s sleep.

An early morning start and a 1.5-hour trek lead us to Kala Patthar taking advantage of the spectacular array of colors at sunrise on Everest and other towering peaks. After clicking madly we put our cameras down before heading back to Gorekshep for a well-deserved breakfast before continuing on to Dzolgla. In total the trek from Gorak Shep to Lobuche takes about 2 hours followed by another 2-hour trek that takes us back to Dzongla. Today we will have trekked for approximately 7 hours and after this mammoth effort will sleep soundly at Dzongla which is the only option before reaching Chola Pass. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included.

Early morning after breakfast, we start our walk from Dzongla to the Cho-la pass. The walk over the glacier is an enjoyable experience if we can make the trip during the best season otherwise excess snow makes it impossible to cross the pass. As the darkness returns we trek down to Tagnag to spend the night there. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

A relatively short trek of around 5-6 hours today takes us to Gokyo where we stop for lunch. The rest of the day is spent exploring the Gokyo Valley and if time permits visit the glaciers and turquoise lakes of the Gokyo Valley. During our trek, we are gifted with some magnificent views of several massive soaring Himalayan peaks, such as Everest, Cho-Oyu (8188m 6th highest in the world), Lhotse Makalu and others. Tonight we stay at Gokyo. Breakfast, lunch, and Dinner Included.

An early morning start sees us climb Gokyo Ri  (5333m) to take in a jaw-dropping view of the enormous Ngozumpa glacier (36km long), and views of the upper Gokyo Valley and the incredible peaks of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Nuptse, Cho-Oyu, and Gychung Kang.  We will then have breakfast and descend to Dole (4200m) where we will spend the night. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included.

Today is down-hill sailing as we pass through the Sherpa villages of Dole with the mountains towering behind us. We then head to the famous Buddhist town of Namche bazaar alive with its abundance of Sherpa culture and vibrant atmosphere where trekkers share their stories. Tonight we stay at Namche Bazaar. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included.

Today we head back to Phakding on our last day on the trail. We expect to arrive at Lukla early enough to allow you to explore the village and the immediate countryside. You will take a deep breath and look back on this amazing journey and maybe go over your photos and catch up on emails to your family and friends. This is the time to look back on this incredible journey and of accomplishing this physically challenging trek.

An early morning flight takes us back to Kathmandu – this time you will have a different perspective of the mountains below. You have had a personal taste of this vast region. At Kathmandu, you will have time to do some last-minute shopping for souvenirs or to catch up with friends. You can also wander through Thamel and maybe head for a café or bar for your last night out in Nepal. Our guides will be available to point you in the right direction, whether it is for sightseeing or shopping.

This is your last day in Nepal. A representative from Sherpa Teams will take you to the airport at least three hours prior to your departure and wish you a safe journey home. We anticipate that on your flight you will already be making plans for your next exciting adventure into the Himalayas of Nepal.

Good to Know

Accommodation

You will be accommodated in 3-star hotels in Kathmandu. During the trek, we will be staying at lodges/ teahouses. You may find comfort and better quality teahouses - having attached bathroom - until Namche which is a thriving town seeing many more tourists and a greater range of accommodation. It should be noted that at higher elevations the quality of accommodation may not be as good, with more basic rooms with the bare necessities.

Meals during the trek

In Kathmandu, your hotel includes breakfast, whereas all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) will be provided during the trek. A staple food of the Khumbu region is potatoes, oats, buckwheat, Sherpa stew and Tibetan bread. Sherpas’ started farming potatoes when the first seeds were introduced to the region in the early 90s. There is a limited choice of food at higher elevations and except many potato dishes. Potatoes are high in carbohydrates – an excellent source of energy needed at high altitudes.

Transportation

We use a private car for sightseeing and for the airport to hotel pick and drop off. We do not have to use public transportation or local buses during the trek. Our only flights are from Kathmandu to Lukla and return.

Physical fitness

EBC is a challenging trek where you often have to walk 6-7 hours a day. You don’t need past experience of hiking or trekking but if you have done any kind of trekking activities then it is always a plus!. We have met people from all walks of life, shapes and sizes who have completed the trek. The only difficult part is when altitude sickness strikes and the effect that it can have on your body. Before leaving for Nepal it is good if you can prepare yourself physically by increasing your stamina and oxygen intake.
Remember – The better prepared – the more enjoyable your trek!

Itinerary

The adventure begins with a thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, where you’ll land at one of the world’s most famous airports. After landing, you'll start your trek towards Phakding, a picturesque village along the Dudh Kosi River. The journey today is relatively short but beautiful, passing through small Sherpa villages and lush forests. The trek takes about 4-5 hours and helps you adjust to the first stages of the altitude. Upon arrival, you can rest and enjoy your first night in the mountain region.

On Day 2, your trek leads you further up the Khumbu valley to Namche Bazaar, a vibrant Sherpa town and the main hub of the Everest region. You will cross several suspension bridges over the Dudh Kosi River and gradually ascend through dense forests of rhododendron, pine, and fir trees. As you reach Namche after 7-8 hours of trekking, the stunning views of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest and Lhotse, begin to unfold. Namche Bazaar will be your base for acclimatization the following day.

Acclimatization is crucial at this stage of the trek to prevent altitude sickness. You’ll spend a day exploring Namche Bazaar, which is also a great opportunity to experience Sherpa culture. For those feeling up to it, there are several optional hikes, such as visiting Everest View Hotel for a panoramic view of Everest, Ama Dablam, and other Himalayan peaks. You may also explore the local market, Buddhist monasteries, or the Sherpa Museum to learn about the region’s history and culture. It’s a day to rest and allow your body to adjust to the altitude.

Today, you continue your trek towards Dole, passing through lush forests and high-altitude meadows. The trail ascends gradually, giving you spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The walk is approximately 5-6 hours, with a moderate climb through Lumela, where you may get your first real taste of the mountainous landscape. Dole offers a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for an overnight rest before you continue the climb towards Gokyo.

The trek to Gokyo is a beautiful 5-6 hour hike, where you’ll cross several scenic villages and be greeted with views of the majestic mountains as you climb. The trail leads through rocky paths and alpine meadows, with the stunning Gokyo Lakes becoming more visible as you approach. Gokyo is situated at the foot of towering peaks like Cho Oyu and offers a tranquil environment perfect for soaking in the Himalayan beauty. Upon arrival, you can enjoy the lakes and the breathtaking scenery.

This day is a highlight of the trek. Early in the morning, you’ll ascend to Gokyo Ri, a viewpoint at 5,483 meters (17,986 feet). From the summit, you’ll enjoy some of the best panoramic views of the region, including Mount Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and the surrounding Gokyo Lakes. After soaking in the breathtaking vistas, you’ll return to Gokyo and then continue to Thangnak (4,500 meters / 14,764 feet). This round trip takes 6-7 hours and provides an unforgettable hiking experience with stunning views of the lakes and surrounding peaks.

Today, you will face a challenging but rewarding section of the trek: crossing the Chola Pass at 5,368 meters (17,611 feet). The climb to the pass is strenuous, but it rewards you with exceptional views of the surrounding peaks. After reaching the top, you’ll descend to Dzongla (4,830 meters / 15,849 feet), a small settlement where you can rest and recover after a long day. This section of the trek takes approximately 6-9 hours and is one of the most demanding parts of the journey.

Today is the day you’ll reach the iconic Everest Base Camp! Starting early, you’ll trek towards Gorak Shep, which serves as the last stop before the base camp. From Gorak Shep, you’ll make your way to Everest Base Camp itself at 5,365 meters (17,598 feet), where you’ll have the chance to stand at the foot of the world’s highest mountain. After celebrating the achievement, you’ll return to Gorak Shep to rest for the night. This long day takes about 9-10 hours, but it’s worth every step for the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The day starts early with a hike up to Kala Patthar (5,555 meters / 18,192 feet), one of the best viewpoints for Mount Everest. The summit offers an incredible panoramic view of Everest and the surrounding peaks, especially at sunrise when the light hits the mountains. After several days at high altitudes, it’s time to descend back towards Namche Bazaar. The trail takes you through Pangboche, Tengboche, and Khumjung, with views of lush forests and the majestic peaks of the Himalayas. The trek down is approximately 6-7 hours, and the descent provides a refreshing change from the previous challenging days at higher altitudes. In Namche, you can relax, have a warm meal, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the town.

This journey provides trekkers with the rare opportunity to explore both the serene Gokyo Valley and the legendary Everest Base Camp, all while being surrounded by some of the world’s most breathtaking mountain landscapes.

The trek starts with a flight to Lukla (2,804 m / 9,196 ft), followed by a journey through lush valleys, picturesque villages, and dense forests, gradually gaining altitude. You’ll trek through the bustling town of Namche Bazaar, where you’ll acclimatize and soak in panoramic views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse. From Namche, the trek continues to Dole, Gokyo, and culminates at Gokyo Ri, a stunning viewpoint offering awe-inspiring views of Everest, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.

After exploring Gokyo, you’ll cross the challenging Chola Pass (5,368 m / 17,611 ft), a thrilling experience that connects the Gokyo Valley to the Khumbu Valley. The trek then leads you to Everest Base Camp (5,365 m / 17,598 ft), the iconic destination where trekkers come face to face with the towering Mount Everest. From there, you’ll make your way to Kala Patthar (5,555 m / 18,192 ft) for a breathtaking sunrise view of Everest and the surrounding peaks.

The return journey follows a similar path back to Lukla, where you’ll catch a flight to Kathmandu, concluding this epic Himalayan adventure. The Gokyo and Everest Base Camp Trek is a challenging but rewarding journey that offers unparalleled views, cultural experiences, and a sense of achievement.

Itinerary

Your adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, where you’ll land at one of the world’s most famous airports. From Lukla, the trek to Phakding follows a mostly downhill path along the Dudh Koshi River, through small Sherpa villages and lush forests. The day is relatively short and allows you to adjust to the mountain terrain while soaking in the beauty of the region.

Today’s trek takes you from Phakding to Namche Bazaar, the vibrant heart of the Khumbu region. As you climb through forests of rhododendron and pine trees, you’ll cross several suspension bridges. The ascent is steep, but the views of the surrounding peaks, such as Everest and Lhotse, make the effort worthwhile. Upon reaching Namche, enjoy the stunning vistas and the lively atmosphere of this Sherpa town.

This is an essential acclimatization day, allowing your body to adjust to the higher altitude. You can spend the day exploring Namche Bazaar, visiting the local museum, or hiking up to the Everest View Hotel for incredible panoramic views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku.

Leaving Namche, you’ll trek towards Dole, passing through small villages and pine forests. The path climbs steadily and offers exceptional views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. Dole is a quiet settlement with stunning vistas and is a great place to rest after a challenging day of trekking.

The trek from Dole to Gokyo takes you through high-altitude terrain with spectacular views of the Gokyo Lakes and surrounding peaks. Upon arrival, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of Everest, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. Gokyo is famous for its pristine lakes, which are some of the highest in the world.

A challenging yet rewarding day, you’ll climb to the summit of Gokyo Ri, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. After soaking in the views, descend back to Gokyo, passing through Thangnak along the way. The day’s trek offers some of the best vistas in the entire region.

Today, you’ll tackle the Chola Pass, a high-altitude, rugged section of the trek. This is a physically demanding day with an ascent to the pass and then a descent to Dzongla, a small village nestled between towering peaks. The pass offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers, making it a highlight of the trek.

From Dzongla, the trek takes you through rocky terrain, passing Pangboche and Dingboche on the way to Lobuche. Along the way, you’ll be treated to great views of Pumori and Nuptse. The path is relatively less steep, but the altitude makes it a challenging section. Lobuche is a small settlement, and the night here provides the opportunity to rest before reaching the Everest Base Camp.

Today is the day you reach the Everest Base Camp, one of the most iconic destinations for trekkers around the world. The trek to Gorak Shep involves passing through rocky paths and moraine fields. Upon reaching Everest Base Camp, enjoy the majestic views of Khumbu Icefall and the towering Mount Everest. Afterward, return to Gorak Shep for an overnight stay.

An early morning hike to Kala Patthar will reward you with a sunrise view of Mount Everest and the surrounding peaks. After taking in the stunning views, you’ll begin your descent to Pheriche, a village located at a lower altitude, which will aid in acclimatization. The day involves a combination of uphill and downhill trekking.

From Pheriche, you’ll trek back to Namche Bazaar, passing through Tengboche and Khumjung. The descent is long but offers beautiful views of the Himalayas, including Ama Dablam and Everest. You’ll return to the comfort of Namche for a good rest.

The final day of trekking takes you back to Lukla, where your adventure began. As you descend through Phakding and Chheplung, you’ll have a chance to reflect on the incredible journey. Upon reaching Lukla, enjoy a well-deserved rest.

After an early breakfast, catch your flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu, where your incredible Gokyo and Everest Base Camp Trek concludes.

The Gokyo and Everest Base Camp Trek offers an enriching experience, combining natural beauty with cultural exploration, all while testing your physical and mental endurance.

Itinerary

After an early morning flight from Kathmandu, you will land in Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. From here, you will begin your trek, descending to Phakding through scenic villages and lush forests. The trek is relatively easy, allowing you to adjust to the altitude while enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the Khumbu region. Phakding is a small village along the Dudh Koshi River, where you will spend your first night.

Today's trek is more challenging, taking you through dense forests of pine, rhododendron, and magnolia. You will cross several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River, including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge. As you ascend, you’ll catch your first glimpse of Mount Everest, and eventually, you’ll arrive at Namche Bazaar, the bustling Sherpa capital of the Khumbu. It’s a vibrant market town surrounded by towering peaks, where you will rest for an acclimatization day tomorrow.

Spend the day exploring Namche Bazaar and its surroundings. You can hike up to Everest View Hotel for panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. Alternatively, you can take a short hike to Sagarmatha National Park for more acclimatization while soaking in the beauty of the area.

Today, you’ll head toward Dole, crossing several ridges with breathtaking views of the Khumbu Himal. The trail takes you through traditional Sherpa villages such as Khumjung and Kunde, where you’ll experience the rich Sherpa culture. As you continue, the landscape changes from lush forest to more alpine terrain, signaling the higher altitudes.

The trek to Machhermo is short but steep, taking you through yak pastures and the beautiful alpine environment. As you reach Machhermo, the mountain air grows thinner, and you can feel the altitude’s effects. The village is a quiet stopover before your final push to Gokyo.

The day’s trek brings you to Gokyo, a village nestled beside the striking Gokyo Lakes. As you approach Gokyo, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Mount Cho Oyu and other towering peaks. The blue-green lakes here are a photographer’s dream. Enjoy a well-earned rest after this scenic day.

Today’s adventure takes you up to Gokyo Ri, one of the best viewpoints in the Everest region. From the summit, you will have an amazing panoramic view of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and other surrounding peaks. After soaking in the views, descend to Thangnak, then back to Gokyo for the night.

The day’s trek is one of the most challenging, as you cross the Chola Pass, a high mountain pass between the Gokyo and Everest regions. The climb is strenuous, and conditions can be unpredictable, but the reward at the top is an unbeatable view. Afterward, you will descend to Dzongla for the night.

Today’s trek is a steady climb as you head to Lobuche, a small settlement nestled at the base of the towering Lobuche Peak. Along the way, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the surrounding peaks, including Pumori and Nuptse.

Today, you reach Everest Base Camp, one of the most iconic destinations in the world. After soaking in the views of Khumbu Icefall and the Everest summit, you will return to Gorak Shep for the night. This is a long and tiring day, but the sense of achievement at Base Camp makes it all worth it.

Before descending, you will hike up to Kala Patthar, one of the highest accessible points on the trek with the best panoramic views of Everest and the surrounding peaks. Afterward, you will descend to Pheriche, passing through Dingboche along the way.

The return trek to Namche Bazaar is easier, as it’s mostly downhill. You will retrace your steps through Pheriche and Tengboche, stopping at beautiful Sherpa villages and monasteries. Arriving back at Namche, you can enjoy a hot meal and some relaxation after the long journey.

The final day of your trek takes you back to Lukla, completing your journey. The descent is mostly downhill, and you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the peaceful landscapes of the Khumbu region one last time.

In the morning, you will board a flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu, marking the end of your Gokyo and Everest Base Camp Trek. The scenic flight offers one final view of the mountains before you return to the bustling city of Kathmandu.

Overview

This 15-day trek to EBC and Gokyo Lakes provides spectacular views of Mt. Everest & remarkable beauty of the Gokyo Valley with its alluring emerald blue lakes. The Himalayas of Nepal is undoubtedly a magical land of beauty rich in Tibetan Buddhist culture that is practiced by probably the hardiest and most friendly people in Nepal. It was Sherpa Tenzing Norgay who partnered with New Zealander Edmund Hillary to reach the summit of Mt Everest. The Gokyo and Everest Base Camp trek takes you to the high altitude Cho la Pass (5420m) that connects Dzongla in the east and Thagnak Village in the west.

Trekking through the peaceful Gokyo valley in the Sagarmatha National Park offers some awesome views of Gokyo Ri (5357m) and Kalapathar (6660m). Additionally, the views of Mount Everest (8848m), Mt Lhotse (8516m), Mt Makalu (8485m). Cho-Oyu (8201 m) and Nuptse, Amadablam, Thamserku, Pumori, and Khumbutse in the Khumbu district will leave you spellbound. Sagarmatha National Park has an abundance of unique flora and fauna and a varied landscape that ranges from lush valleys, forests and glaciers. In this region you can expect to see yaks grazing, donkeys, Musk deer, Himalayan mountain bear, wild mountain goat, the elusive Snow Leopard, blue sheep, Rhesus monkey, Languor monkeys, mountain hawk and the superbly colored pheasant  (Nepal’s national bird).

Sherpa Teams’s Everest Base Camp and Cho-La Pass trek begins at Kathmandu followed by a short scenic flight to Lukla. Our trek begins at Lukla taking us to Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche and Everest Base Camp. Climbing to Kala Patthar (5550m) is famous for its views of Mt. Everest, Dzongla, Cho-La Pass (5420m), Gokyo Valley, Ngozumpa Glacier, 5 turquoise Gokyo Lakes, Renjo La Pass and Gokyo Ri. This Trek offers trekkers a more varied experience of this region besides just visiting Everest Base Camp. This off the beaten path trek is more physically demanding due to the altitude at Cho La Pass (5420m). We will also cross the Ngozumpa Glacier before reaching the pass. Gokyo Valley lies between Gokyo and Khumbu.

Sherpa Teams will attend to the details, such as permits, meals and accommodation. With more than 40 years in this business we have become experts in caring for our clients. We leave nothing to chance and focus on making this an enjoyable, safe and hassle-free adventure that you will tell your friends about.

Itinerary

Our guide will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. The remainder of the day you will have an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the shopping areas closest to your hotel in the Thamel district, the tourist hub in Kathmandu. In the evening your tour guide will give you a brief introduction and provide valuable information about the trek.

This morning you will be picked up at the hotel by your guide who will take you to the domestic airport of Kathmandu airport.  The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla takes around 35 minutes, allowing you time to catch the spectacular views of the Himalayas. At Lukla you begin your trek, firstly passing a Kani (ceremonial gatehouse) before the trail descends and follows a route just above Kyangma village and its large Gompa (monastery). We then continue on to Cheplung Village where the trail passes through a forest within sight of the Dudh Koshi River. After crossing the suspension bridge you trek across the ridge to Ghat and then passes Mani walls, Chortens and prayer wheels.. After a short walk from Ghat we reach Phakding where we will stay overnight.

The trail crosses several suspension bridges over the Dudh Kosi River before reaching the villages of Tok-Tok, Benkar, and Monjo, and then we arrive at the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park. After following the river for several hours there is a steep uphill trek to Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is a thriving town and has a variety of restaurants, an internet café, pubs, post office, ATM and banks.

This pleasant town is the perfect place for "acclimatization". Health specialists recommend we spend the day being active, rather than sitting idle. It is possible, in order to stay active, take a short trek to Everest View Resort, Thame, visit Khunde or relax and explore Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is a thriving center of the Everest (Khumbu) region and has a colorful market each Friday evening and Saturday. Our guide can also take you to the Tourist Visitor Center situated close to the headquarters of the Sagarmatha National Park where we can see a variety of relics relating to the first mountaineers to climb Everest, Sherpa culture and discover the various plant and animal life of the Everest region.

The trail begins with a steep ascent from the valley floor passing through rhododendron, juniper and large conifer forests that fill the air with their distinct aroma. The trail then continues through Yak Kharka (meaning grazing pasture for yak) and various Sherpa villages. Throughout the trek, we will have some amazing views of Khumbu La Pass and Tengboche.

Today we take the trail leading to Gokyo (4790m), one of the main attractions of this trek. While in Gokyo for 2 days we will take a few trails and explore the surrounding terrain around the lakes.

Today we trek for about 6 to 7 hours and have a steep climb up to Gokyo Ri (5483m). The spectacular views will leave you awestruck. There are glorious views of Gokyo Valley, the enormous Ngozumpa Glacier (world’s highest), incredible panoramic views of the entire Khumbu region, and the soaring peaks of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu and Gychung Kang (7952m). We will trek to the base of Cho La pass. Due to its remoteness, our accommodation tonight will be in a dormitory.

An early start will see us trek from Gokyo Ri and have a magnificent view of Mt Cholatse (6440m) in the morning light. Today is the most physically demanding day of our trek as we head to Cho-La Pass (5420m). On reaching the highest point of the valley we begin our trek through Cho La Pass with some fantastic views of Chola Lake and Mt. Amadablam. The climbing can be quite tricky due to the terrain being rugged and with rocks covered with ice. After reaching the top of the pass we then descend to Dzongla for the night.

Today is an easy trek that is less demanding. It will take us around 4 hours to reach Lobuche where we will stay the night.

Today starts with a two-hour trek to Gorakshep. The trail is easy, to begin with, but slowly becomes more difficult. Along the trail, we have spectacular views of several soaring peaks, such as Everest, Nuptse, and other peaks. The trail continues for about 150 meters before crossing a moraine and then gets easier before we arrive at Gorakshep, one of the world's most remote and highest settlements. After a lunch break, we trek toward EBC along a trail next to the Khumbu Glacier. Crossing the glacier will take around 1.5 hours before coming to EBC (5360m). From EBC you will have views of the Khumbu Glacier with its terrifying and dangerous crevices. We will then descend to Gorakshep for the night.

This will be one of the most physically demanding days of the trek. Most of the morning is spent climbing Mt. Kala Patthar, a small peak at 5,555m. The ascent is hard going, but you will have a magnificent mountain panorama upon reaching the top. You can see Everest, the highest peak on the planet at 8,848m, that looms right in front of you, plus Nuptse, Pumori, Changtse, Lhotse, and numerous other snow-covered peaks.  We will then descend to Gorak Shep for breakfast and then head down to Pheriche for the night.

We have a big day ahead of us with about 7 hours of trekking and passing through the villages of Pangboche and Tengboche before descending to Phunki Thanga (3200m). Our final trek on this adventure is to Namche Bazaar where we can celebrate our success, visit the bread shop and maybe have a celebratory drink at a bar!

This is the last day of our trek before returning to our starting point at Lukla. This is a time to reflect on the unforgettable memories of our trek as a group and our achieving our personal goals. You will have a free afternoon giving you time to relax and enjoy a hot shower! In the evening we will celebrate with a few drinks.

You will have a final view of the mountains we have recently visited on this 35 minutes scenic flight back to Kathmandu. On arrival in Kathmandu, we will take you back to your hotel.

Today is your last day in Nepal. A representative from Sherpa Teams will drop you to Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight & departure from Nepal. On your journey home you can contemplate your next trekking adventure to Nepal.

Today’s trek takes you from Phakding to Namche Bazaar, the largest town in the Khumbu region. The route includes a steady uphill climb, crossing multiple suspension bridges. Once you reach Namche, you'll get your first view of Mount Everest in the distance. Spend the night in Namche Bazaar.

This is a rest day for acclimatization. To help your body adjust to the altitude, you can take an easy hike to Everest View Hotel for panoramic views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other surrounding peaks. You can also explore the Sherpa Museum and visit Khunde and Khumjung villages.

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole, a peaceful village with fewer trekkers. The trail winds through beautiful pine forests, offering views of Cho Oyu and Kantega. The trek is approximately 5-6 hours and will bring you to a higher altitude, preparing you for the challenging days ahead.

Today’s trek to Machermo takes 3-5 hours and involves a steady ascent through a valley with expansive views. As you climb, the landscape changes with alpine meadows and small yak herders' settlements. The village of Machermo is known for its serene atmosphere and views of Thamserku and Kantega.

From Machermo, continue your trek to Gokyo (5-6 hours), a beautiful village located at the edge of the Gokyo Lakes. The trail passes through the valley, offering views of Mount Cho Oyu and its neighboring peaks. Gokyo is a stunning destination surrounded by snow-capped mountains and pristine lakes.

Start your day early with a hike to Gokyo Ri (5,483 m) for a sunrise view over Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. After taking in the spectacular views, descend back to Gokyo and continue your trek to Thangnak. This is a full day of trekking, offering excellent views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers.

This is one of the most challenging days of the trek. You’ll cross Cho La Pass (5,368 m), a steep, rocky, and icy pass that takes 6-9 hours to navigate. The effort is rewarded with awe-inspiring views of the Khumbu Glacier and surrounding peaks. After crossing the pass, continue your descent to Dzongla, where you will spend the night.

From Dzongla, head toward Lobuche. This trek is easier compared to the previous day but still requires stamina as you gradually ascend. The trail passes through rocky paths and offers incredible views of the surrounding mountains. Lobuche is a small village located close to the base of Pumori, offering a quiet place to rest.

The highlight of the trek: a visit to Everest Base Camp. Start early, and trek through the Khumbu Glacier for approximately 6-7 hours to reach Everest Base Camp. Stand in awe beneath the towering Everest and nearby peaks. Afterward, descend to Gorak Shep, a small settlement where you’ll spend the night.

Start early in the morning to hike to Kala Patthar (5,555 m) for a stunning panoramic view of Mount Everest and the surrounding peaks. Afterward, descend to Pheriche (4,300 m) in 6-7 hours. This is a long day, but the descent will be easier, and you’ll be able to rest and acclimatize at a lower altitude.

The trek back to Namche Bazaar from Pheriche will take about 6-7 hours. The trail descends through the Dingboche and Deboche villages and brings you back to the bustling hub of Namche. After a long day, enjoy a well-deserved rest in the town.

Your final trekking day takes you from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (6-7 hours). This part of the trek is mostly downhill, making it easier to cover the distance. Lukla marks the end of your trekking journey, and you can relax and celebrate your accomplishments with fellow trekkers.

In the morning, catch a scenic flight back to Kathmandu. The 30-minute flight offers beautiful aerial views of the Himalayas. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu, where you can rest and explore the city if you have time.

On the final day of your trip, you’ll have some free time to explore Kathmandu or do last-minute shopping. At the appropriate time, you’ll be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight home, marking the end of your unforgettable Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lake.

Overview

This 14 day Everest Base Camp trek (5364m) will take you to where Sir Edmund Hillary (New Zealand) and Tenzing Norgay (Nepal) stood and planned their famous climb to the top of the world’s tallest mountain - Mt. Everest (8848m). This is an opportunity to stand in the exact place that changed history. A special highlight of this trek is the helicopter flight from Gokyo back to Kathmandu – probably the most perfect way to view the Himalayan Mountains. You will also visit the UNESCO and World Heritage-listed Sagamartha National Park. On the trail, you will visit the famous Tengboche Monastery where you view Everest, as well as other 8000 meter giants like Lhotse (8516m) and Makalu (8463m). This trek takes you up to Mt. Kala Patthar (5643m) which is the closest viewpoint of Mt. Everest and other snow-covered Himalayan peaks. At EBC you can see the Khumbu Glacier as it descends down the face of Everest.

The trails will take you through gorges, lush forests and across mountains in order to reach EBC. There will be enough time set aside to allow you to acclimatize before heading to higher elevations. Passing through villages in the Khumbu region will give you a first-hand insight of what the villagers tolerate to survive in the Himalayan Mountains, and also how their devout Tibetan Buddhist faith enriches their lives.

The mountains seem so close that you can literally reach out to them! Four of the tallest mountains in the world are located in this region.

Your scenic flight into Lukla and your helicopter flight from Gokyo will emphasize the extensive range of the Himalayan Mountains. On the return helicopter fight you will have a new admiration of these mountains after having trekked through these mountains and valleys to reach EBC. This trek will satisfy nature-lovers and those who have been in awe of seeing the world’s tallest peak without having to climb it.

Sherpa Expedition & Trekking (Est.1977) have been taking trekkers and climbers into the Himalayas for a long time and leave nothing to chance – except the weather! We have an first-rate reputation and will ensure this is a journey to be remembered with memories that will last you a lifetime.

Itinerary

Your adventure begins at Kathmandu. On arrival, a representative from Sherpa Teams will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel where you can do some last-minute shopping or merely wander the narrow and winding streets.

An early morning 30 to 40 minute scenic flight takes us to Tenzing-Hilary Airport at Lukla. From here we follow the trail to Phakding along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River.

We have a fairly easy day ahead of us on the trail as we cross over several bridges on the Dudh Kosi River via the attractive villages of Toc-Toc, Benkar, and Monjo before coming to the official entrance to Sagarmatha National Park. We will then follow the trail along river flats for several hours and then cross the final bridge before climbing a steep hill until we arrive at Namche Bazaar, a thriving modern town with many facilities such as restaurants, hotels, internet cafes, and banks.

Today has been specifically set aside in order acclimatize, which is absolutely necessary before heading to the higher altitudes later on the trek. Health experts vigorously recommend staying active during this time in order to better acclimatize. We have several options open to us to aid this process. We can take a trek to Thame or visit Khunde. Another option is to use this time to explore Namche Bazaar and visit the popular weekly market that takes place on Friday evening and on Saturday morning. Your guide can also take you to the Tourist Visitor Center near to the headquarters of the Sagarmatha National Park that has a fascinating display of equipment and remnants of the first Everest climbers. You can also learn a lot about the flora and fauna of the region.

Today we follow the raging Dudh Kosi River as its glacial waters cascade down from the mountains. The trail also provides some stunning mountain views as we slowly climb higher to 3860m at Tengboche Village, well known for its decorative wall hangings and 6 meter Buddha, Tibetan musical instruments and colourful Lama robes. Taking part in the evening prayer at the monastery is a relaxing and calming end to the day.

Today we have an easy trek to Dingboche – except for the final stage where we have to climb a steep hill which reminds us that trekking at higher altitudes is more physically demanding. Initially we pass through the villages of Somare (4010m) and Orsho. Further down the trail we come to a fork and take the left trail that leads to Pheriche Village, then cross a bridge before that steep ascent to Dingboche Village (4410m) that has several good lodges for us to choose from.

Today we have an easy time along the trail as we head to Chhukung Valley. There are some great views of the eastern face of Ama Dablam and of the moraines towards Island Peak. The view from Chhukung and further up the valley on the moraines towards Island Peak is tremendous. This short trek is an exciting adventure. We will head back along the trail to Dingboche for the night. We also have to be prepared for strong winds when returning to Dingboche.

We first off head to Dughla Village and then cross the steep moraine at the base of the Khumbu Glacier and cross slopes strewn with boulders. We then head up to Chupki Lhara that has an array stones with Tibetan prayer flags placed as a memorial to climbers Scott Fischer (American) and ten time Everest summiteer Babu Chiri Sherpa (Nepalese guide) who died while trying to  climb Mt. Everest. As we head in the direction of the Khumbu Glacier moraine several large peaks appear in front of us: Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. This scene will leave you stunned.

We are slowly approaching EBC as we head to higher elevations passing Gorak Shep Lake and then further on a memorial that honors Indian mountaineers who have died on Everest.  As we head higher it becomes more physically demanding as a result of the thinner air at these higher altitudes. The trail has rocks, moraine and streams to cross before we come to EBC. The first thing we will notice on arrival at EBC is the spectacular array of colorful tents of mountaineers waiting for the right conditions before heading to the summit. From EBC we can distinctly see Nuptse, Khumbutse and Pumori and the snow glistening on their peaks. After a rest and look around EBC we head back to Gorak Shep for a good night’s sleep.

We head out in the fresh pre-dawn with temperatures around -10 to -14C as we head to Kala Patthar. There is also a possibility of strong winds that will add the chill factor. In the east are the peaks of Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse. Everest also starts to appear before our eyes. Upon reaching the summit of Kala Patthar we will be overjoyed as we take in the 360-degree views and the massive and ominous Mt. Everest that appears right in front of you. This is an ideal time to have your camera ready and to take some amazing photos of Everest that will be a reminder for years after you depart Nepal. We will then descend to and stay at Dzongla for the night.

In the early hours this morning we leave Dzongla and head to Chola Pass. The trek over the glacier is an enjoyable experience if of course there is not excessive snow which makes it impossible to cross. We then head down to Tagnag for the night.

We will come to Gokyo in about 2 to 3 hours in time to stop here for lunch. The rest of the day is spent exploring the Gokyo valley. We will also visit the glaciers and turquoise lakes of the Gokyo valley while taking in the awesome views of the giant Himalayan peaks such as Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse Makalu and others. We will stay the night at Gokyo.

The trek up to the peak is quite hard going, but once at the peak, you will appreciate the effort you put in to get there. The incredible views of the Gokyo valley, the Ngozumpa glacier, and a panoramic scene of the Khumbu Himalayan peak will make the tough climb worthwhile. After spending some time here we will board the helicopter and head back over the mountains to Kathmandu.

Your Nepal adventure and trek to EBC ends today as our representative takes you to the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. On your way home you will have time to plan your next adventure into the Himalayan Mountains.

Overview

This 8-day trek to EBC and Gokyo Lakes provides spectacular views of Mt.

Sherpa Expedition and Trekking’s Everest Base Camp and Cho-La Pass trek begins at Kathmandu followed by a short scenic flight to Lukla.

Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will attend to the details, such as permits, meals and accommodation. With more than 40 years in this business we have become experts in caring for our clients. We leave nothing to chance and focus on making this an enjoyable, safe and hassle-free adventure that you will tell your friends about.

Itinerary

An early start to the day will be rewarded with unforgettable sunrise views from Kala Pathar – a photographer’s paradise! Mount Everest and other gigantic peaks will be in-your-face! After spending some time here to capture the views we will head back down to Gorakshep for a well-deserved breakfast. After breakfast, we will prepare for the scenic helicopter flight back to Lukla and after we reach Lukla we will take a normal flight in some glorious views of the surrounding Himalayan Mountains.
