ANNAPURNA CIRCUIT WITH TILICHO LAKE TREK 16 DAY

The 16 Days Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek offers an unforgettable journey through the heart of the Annapurna region. The adventure begins upon arrival in Kathmandu, where you will spend a night before taking a scenic local bus drive to Besisahar the next day. From Besisahar, a shared jeep will take you to Chame, where your trek begins. You will then pass through beautiful villages like Pisang and Manang, where you’ll rest for a day to acclimatize and prepare for higher altitudes.

After acclimatization in Manang, you will trek towards Siri Kharka, followed by a challenging hike to Tilicho Base Camp. From here, you’ll continue to the world’s highest lake, Tilicho Lake, at 4,949 meters, offering stunning views of surrounding peaks. After soaking in the beauty of the lake, you will retrace your steps back to Siri Kharka.

The journey continues as you trek through Yak Kharka and Thorong Phedi before reaching the pinnacle of your trek, the Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters). Crossing this high-altitude pass is both physically demanding and incredibly rewarding, offering panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. After descending to Muktinath, you will visit the sacred Muktinath Temple.

From Muktinath, you will drive by local bus to Tatopani, famous for its hot springs, where you can relax and rejuvenate. The next day, you will continue your trek to Ghorepani, followed by a sunrise hike to Poon Hill for breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. After the hike, you will trek down to Nayapul, drive to Pokhara, and then return to Kathmandu. The trek concludes with a transfer to the airport for your final departure.

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel.

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal’s vibrant capital, you will be greeted by our representative who will transfer you to your hotel. The day is free for you to relax and recover from your journey. You can take a stroll around Thamel, the bustling tourist hub of Kathmandu, or simply unwind and prepare for the trek ahead. You will meet your guide and team in the evening for a briefing about the trek.

Day 2 : Drive from Kathmandu to Chame (2,650m) – Duration: 10-12 hours.

After an early breakfast, you’ll begin your scenic drive from Kathmandu to Chame, the district headquarters of Manang. The drive takes you through the Prithvi Highway and passes through the picturesque towns of Besisahar and Syange, offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes and mountains. From Besisahar, you will switch to a jeep for a rugged ride to Chame, which takes about 10-12 hours. In Chame, you’ll check into a local teahouse and prepare for the trek the following day.

Day 3 : Trek from Chame to Pisang (3,300m) – Duration: 5-6 hours.

The trek begins with a steady climb, offering magnificent views of the surrounding peaks. You'll pass through several villages, including Brathang, where you’ll get your first views of Pisang Peak. After crossing a few bridges and winding paths through pine forests, you will reach Pisang, a village set against the backdrop of towering peaks. The trek today takes around 5-6 hours, and once in Pisang, you’ll stay overnight in a local teahouse.

Day 4 : Trek from Pisang to Manang (3,500m) Via Ngawal – Duration: 6-7 hours.

Today’s trek involves a beautiful journey through lush forests and alpine meadows. You will pass through Ngawal, a charming village that offers stunning views of Annapurna II and III. The trail then climbs steadily to Manang, where you’ll spend the night. The trek today takes approximately 6-7 hours, and as you reach Manang, you’ll notice the shift in scenery to a more arid, Himalayan landscape. This is an important stop for acclimatization before heading further into the high-altitude regions.

Day 5 : Exploration and Acclimatization Day at Manang.

A vital part of the trek, today is dedicated to acclimatization in Manang. You’ll take a short hike to Gangapurna Lake or the Monastery for panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The goal is to allow your body to adjust to the increasing altitude while staying active. In the afternoon, you can visit the local markets and learn about the unique culture of the Manang Valley. Resting today will ensure a safer and more comfortable trek ahead.

Day 6 : Trek from Manang to Siri Kharka (4,060m) – Duration: 4-5 hours.

The trek from Manang to Siri Kharka is a gradual ascent that takes about 4-5 hours. The landscape transitions from lush greenery to alpine meadows as you leave the tree line behind. You'll trek through the small villages of Khangsar and continue upwards toward Siri Kharka, where you’ll spend the night. Siri Kharka is a relatively remote village, providing a peaceful and scenic location for rest and acclimatization.

Day 7 : Trek from Siri Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp (4,140m) – Duration: 5-6 hours.

Today’s trek takes you closer to the high-altitude regions of the Annapurna Circuit. The path to Tilicho Base Camp offers breathtaking views of Tilicho Peak and the surrounding mountains. Day 9 : Trek from Siri Kharka to Yak Kharka (4,040m) – Duration: 4-5 hours.

After returning to Siri Kharka, you’ll continue the trek towards Yak Kharka. The trek today is moderate and takes around 4-5 hours. You will pass through high-altitude grasslands and encounter herds of yaks along the way. Yak Kharka is a small settlement, and it provides excellent views of the surrounding peaks.

Day 10 : Trek from Yak Kharka to Phedi or High Camp (4,600m) – Duration: 4-5 hours.

The trail from Yak Kharka to Phedi or High Camp is a steady climb. The journey takes about 4-5 hours, and you will notice the air getting thinner as you approach higher altitudes. The region around High Camp is often quite cold, and it marks the last settlement before the final push to Thorong La Pass.

Day 11 : Cross Thorong La Pass (5,416m) and Trek to Muktinath (3,400m) – Duration: 8-9 hours.

GOOD TO KNOW

Good to Know 📝

Embarking on the 16 Days Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek is an incredible adventure, but there are some essential details to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience:

Altitude and Acclimatization 🌄

As you’ll be trekking at high altitudes, it’s crucial to allow your body time to adjust. The trek involves reaching heights over 5,000 meters at Thorong La Pass and Tilicho Lake, so acclimatization days (like the rest day at Manang) are built into the itinerary to help reduce the risk of altitude sickness. Be sure to follow your guide’s advice and stay hydrated throughout the journey.

Weather and Temperature 🌦️

The weather can vary greatly throughout the trek. Expect warm temperatures in the lower regions and cold conditions at higher altitudes, especially around Tilicho Lake and Thorong La Pass. In the peak trekking seasons (Spring and Autumn), the weather is generally clear, but be prepared for sudden changes, such as snow or rain in the higher elevations. Dress in layers and ensure you have a good quality jacket, gloves, and warm hat.

Fitness and Training 💪

While the Annapurna Circuit is accessible for trekkers of various fitness levels, the trek does require a moderate level of physical fitness. Regular cardio and endurance training before your trip can significantly improve your ability to manage the long days of trekking, especially the challenging days crossing Thorong La Pass.

Packing Tips 🎒

Packing the right gear is key to having a successful trek. Essentials include proper trekking boots, lightweight yet warm clothing, a sleeping bag, and a good-quality water bottle. Don’t forget sun protection such as sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as the sun can be intense at high altitudes. Also, pack some basic first-aid supplies and any medications you may need.

Food and Water 🍲💧

The trek provides plenty of teahouses and lodges where you can enjoy meals such as dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), momos, and other Nepali staples. However, it’s always a good idea to carry some high-energy snacks like nuts, granola bars, or dried fruit. As for water, always drink purified water and consider bringing a water purifier or purification tablets.

Local Culture and Etiquette 🙏

Nepal is rich in culture, and it’s important to show respect to the local communities you’ll encounter along the trail. When trekking through villages, always greet locals with a friendly “Namaste” and respect their traditions. You may also visit sacred temples like Muktinath Temple, so be mindful of local customs when entering these religious sites.

Travel Insurance 🛡️

Ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers trekking at high altitudes, emergency evacuation, and any medical needs. While the route is generally safe, accidents can happen, and it’s important to be prepared for any unexpected situations.

Proper fitness and acclimatization are crucial for completing the trek safely.

Do I need a guide for the Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek?

Tilicho Lake is located at an altitude of 4,949 meters (16,237 feet), making it one of the highest lakes in the world. Proper acclimatization and staying hydrated are essential for safety.

The trek is suitable for those with basic trekking experience and moderate fitness. Beginners may find the 16-day trek challenging, but with proper training and gradual acclimatization, it’s achievable. To prepare, engage in cardio training, such as hiking or walking with a weighted backpack, to build endurance. Incorporate strength training to strengthen your legs and core. Also, practice hill climbing and long-distance trekking to simulate the conditions of the trek. Mental preparation for the high-altitude environment is equally important.

Is there access to internet or phone signal during the trek?

Internet and phone signal are available at select locations along the trail, especially in larger villages like Manang, Jomsom, and Pokhara. However, connectivity can be intermittent, and high-altitude areas like Tilicho Lake and Thorong La may have limited or no signal. You may need to purchase a local SIM card for communication.

Essential items include trekking boots, warm layers, waterproof clothing, sleeping bag, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Don’t forget your personal medications, first-aid kit, and water purification tablets. A backpack with a rain cover and a headlamp are also recommended.
