ANNAPURNA 1ST EXPEDITION

The ultimate challenge for any climber!

Climbing Annapurna 1 (10th highest in world) will add your name to the history books!

Height is not the only factor to consider when climbing a mountain. Annapurna 1 (8,091m /26,545 ft) is a prime example of this, as it has the least number of ascents of any high peak in Nepal and possibly the world. This mountain is not for the feint - hearted and should only be attempted by highly experienced climbers. Storms, avalanches and looming glacial slopes make this an extremely difficult and dangerous mountain to climb. South Face is said to be the most dangerous climb in the world. You will need your wits about you and an enormous amount of courage to consider this climb.

The famous mountaineer George Mallory when asked why do people risk their lives to climb mountains? He replied, “Because it's there,” Annapurna 1 is located in the Himalayas in the north of Nepal that includes 13 peaks over 7000m/22,970ft and 16 peaks over 6000m/19,690ft. The entire Annapurna Massif is 55km/34 miles long and is to the east of Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world. This climb will satisfy your love of mountains and your ‘can do’ attitude to overcoming fear. The following list ofpeaks highlights the enormity of this range: Annapurna I (Main) 8,091m, Annapurna II 7,937m, Annapurna III 7,555m, Annapurna IV 7,525m, Gangapurna 7,455m and Annapurna South 7,219m.

In Sanskrit the words Anna and Purna mean “full of food”. For climbers it may mean satisfying a deep desire and hunger to face the ultimate challenge. It was summated by Maurice Herzog on June 3, 1950, three years before Hillary and Tenzing Norgay climbed Everest. The usual route to this summit is achieved by establishing three camps and usually follows the West Face and Northwest Ridge, although it has been climbed by different routes.

Due to the extreme danger of this climb, and the possibility of an emergency evacuation, Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will have a helicopter on standby at Dana – near Base Camp on the day of the ascent to the summit.

Sherpa Expedition and Trekking’s Sherpa guides (well known for their climbing skills) will do everything within their power to lead you safely to the summit. Our guides are government certified and experienced climbers. We take no chances with your well-being and hence have allowed several days to make up for unforeseen circumstances, such as adjusting to higher altitudes and the possibility of altitude sickness.
