Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek
Overview
The Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek is a 19-day tea house trek taking that will take you close to the world’s 8th tallest mountain - Mount Manaslu (8,163m). You will trek through the secluded valley of Tsum. This trekking destination was opened to the public in the mid 1990's, with the Tsum Valley segment a bit later. This is truly an off-the-beaten destination where solitude is guaranteed. Your average day will be around 7 hours of trekking, hence you will need to have a good level of fitness. The trail thorough the Tsum Valley reaches around 3000m, with Larkya La Pass at 5160m means you will be required to acclimatize beforehand. This will test your skills as you may have to trek through ice and snow – and at this altitude even more difficult. We will prepare you for this.
The trail passes cascades and raging rivers and along the face of steep bluffs. You will encounter many Gurung towns and pass through rice and millet fields. You will cross suspension bridges, mani dividers (walls of stone), chortens, and other Buddhist places of worship, particularly in the Tsum Valley region. Tsum Valley is often shrouded in mist and has a strong resemblance to Tibet and passes close to the Tibetan border. You will often meet Buddhist priests and nuns, as well as visit Milarepa's Cave. Along the trail you will most likely see Nepal’s national bird – the Himalayan monal – more commonly referred to as a pheasant. It is mostly found between 2100m and 4500m. Of course there are the towering peaks, such as Manaslu, Simrang, Hiunchuli, Ngadi, Ganesh Himal and Larkya Peak. From Larkya La there are breathtaking perspectives on icefalls and solidified lakes, Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kangguru and the gigantic Annapurna II.
This is a trek for those looking for something more out of the way than the more popular Annapurna treks. It is a tough one, but the rewards are over the top!
Itinerary
A representative from Sherpa Expedition and Trekking will pick you up from the airport and take you to your hotel. If time permits we will guide you around Thamel and help you buy some necessary equipment you may require on your trek. There will be a short briefing about our trek, with ample opportunity to answer any questions you may have.
Today we drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola driving through Dhading Beshi and Arughat. The road deteriorates and is quite rough and bumpy from Dhading to Arughat. This afternoon we follow a trail through the woods heading upriver along the banks of the Budhi Gandaki River and then across the mountains from where we have frequent views down to the river far below. Tonight we will stay at a guesthouse at Machha Khola.
Today we cross the Machha Khola River and pass Khorlabesi (920m) before arriving at Tatopani, famous for its therapeutic hot springs. The trail then passes through a forested area as we make our way to the Dovan Khola (river) and to the Budhi Gandaki Valley. As we head higher you will notice a change in the vegetation right up until we arrive at Jagat Village where we will stay at a guesthouse overnight.
Today we head off on a 6-hour trek, first reaching Salleri where we have magnificent views of Mount Sringi before descending to Sirdibas, a traditional Buddhist village. The trail continues until we reach Lokpa Village, just north of Philim and then go through Ekle Bhatti and climb to a ridge along a trail through a pine forest. We come to a junction where we take the trail heading to Tsum Valley. We stay the night at Lokpa.
Today we have a 5-hour trek ahead of us to Tsum Valley. The first sights of Tsum Valley appear as we head down to along with mountain Chumling Village. We then climb up to Ripchet and a short time later reach the authentic Buddhist village of Chumling, well known for its ancient monastery, traditional Tibetan style houses, prayer flags, mani walls, and its stone-paved streets. We stay here overnight.
Today we start our 5-hour trek by crossing a suspension bridge where we have amazing views of the Ganesh Himal. The trail continues and takes us past Rainjam and across Seru Khola before arriving at Gho Village. After a total of 5 to 6 hours trekking, we reach Chokhangparo Village from where we have views of Himalchuli (7893m) and Ganesh Himal (7140m). We stay here tonight. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
Today’s trek of 6 to 7 hours follows the trail to Rachen Gompa and to the Shir Khola (river). After leaving the river we pass by Phurbe and Pangdun villages before arriving at Nile where we stay the night. Mu Gompa is the largest monastery in the region and the highest point in the Tsum Valley. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
From Gompa, the descent begins. We descend to Rachen Gompa, then Chhule and reach Phurbe. Rachen Gompa lies in the border area of Nepal and Tibet, and it sits surrounded by humongous mountains. But the destination for this day takes you through a forested area and finally at Chhokangparo.
After breakfast, we descent from Chhokung Paro continues as we reach Gho. You will be crossing a suspension bridge near Gho and hiking forward to reach Rainjam Village. We leave Rainjam village, descend to Tsum Valley and finally reach Chumling - our destination for the day.
Today we have a 6 to 7-hour trek ahead of us as we descend from Chumling to Lokpa after first crossing a suspension bridge. The trail follows a rocky ridge where we have a great view of Sringi Himal. We then pass through Ghatta Khola passing by farms growing maize, millet, potatoes, and vegetables. As we continue we follow the trail along the bank of the Budhi Gandaki passing through a bamboo forest before coming to the Deng River. Tonight we stay at Deng next to the river.
Today we initially have a steep climb and then have to head back down to the Budi Gandaki River. The trail heads through the valley and past several small settlements. As we get nearer to Namrung you will see Mani stones (stones with carved with Tibetan mantras) a reminder that we are venturing into territory occupied by Tibetan Buddhists. In the afternoon we will take a short and interesting detour to Prok village (2 hour round trip) and then follow the trail to Namrung for our overnight stay at a guesthouse.
We is like stepping back in time today as we walk between the Mani stone walls of Lho Village, a place where there are few signs of modernity. From Lho we can see the snow capped peak of Ngadi Chuli (7871m aka Peak 29). Another short detour takes us up to the Pungen Glacier from where we have stunning close-up view of Mt. Manaslu. We will stay overnight at a guesthouse in Samagaun.
At these higher altitudes it is necessary to get acclimatized, for at least one day, before attempting climbs to higher altitudes. Health specialists suggest that you move about and don’t sit idly. A good way to stay active is to explore the gompa at Pugyen(4070m), a one day hike that leaves the trail between Syaula and Sama. If time permits, it is possible for you to carry on up this valley to the rugged rocks and terrain of the Pugin glacier. Another option is a trip to the lake at Birendra Tal (3450m) and a demanding ascent to Manaslu Base Camp (4900m). It is believed that north of Birendra Tal is Milarepa's Cave (famous Buddha) claimed to have been used as a meditation retreat by the Buddhist saint. Breakfast, lunch & dinner.
Today the trail descends and heads back to the Buri Gandaki River passing the junction of Birendra Tal and Manaslu Base Camp. The valley expands before reaching Kermo Khadka and then continuing to the white Kani Gateway signaling the entrance to Samdo (3860m). If time permits we may trek to the peak above the village for impressive views of Mount Manaslu. If it is necessary to further acclimatize, there is a 6 t0 7 hour trek climbing 640m to the moraine of the Fukang Glacier, where you will be rewarded with far-reaching views towards several passes used by locals to cross over into Tibet. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
A relatively short day sees us descending through fields prior to starting our climb towards the Larkya-La Pass, a trek offering dazzling views of Manaslu and the Syacha Glacier, and a likelihood of spotting Himalayan blue sheep on your trek to Dharmashala (4480m). This is as high as we go today without risking altitude sickness. This is the last safe haven before reaching the pass. This sector of the trek is often subject to snowfall and from mid-December to mid-March, when snow blocks the Larkya-La Pass, the Samdo Lodge is typically closed. Your guide will know in advance if the lodge is closed. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
We have a tough day ahead of us as we take the trail via Larkya La Pass (5106m/17,121 ft) to Bhimthang. We first have to climb to Cho Chanda and then up to the steep snow covered pass. The views of many surrounding peaks are truly exceptional from this high altitude vantage point. The Himalayan mountains of Himlung Himal (7126m), Cheo Himal (6820m), Gyaji Kung (7030m), Kang Koru (698m) and Annapurna II (7937m) are clearly observable from the pass. We then descend a steep trail and trek across moraines until we come to Bhimthang Village where we will stay at a guesthouse overnight.
Today we descend from high pasture land and then cross the Dudh Khola (river) on a suspension bridge. Along the trail we head through rhododendron (flowering in spring) and oak forests. After trekking for 6 to 7 hours we come to Dharapani in the Annapurna region. This is also a common gateway to the Annapurna circuit trek. If you are thinking of extending your trek, then we can head along the Annapurna trail. Tonight we stay at a guesthouse in Dharapani.
This is our final day on the trail of our Manaslu Circuit trek. Across the river, we will take a local jeep to Besisahar and then a bus back to Kathmandu where you will be taken back to your hotels.
You will leave Nepal, but will never forget this great adventure and the laughs you shared on this journey to some of the world’s most spectacular peaks. A Sherpa Expedition and Trekking representative will drop you off at the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. Breakfast included

Good to Know
Accommodation
You will be accommodated in 3-star hotels in Kathmandu. During the trek, we will be staying at lodges/ teahouses. You may find comfortable and better quality teahouses at lower altitudes. It should be noted that at higher elevations the quality of accommodation may not be as good, with more basic rooms with the bare necessities.
Meals during the trek
In Kathmandu, your hotel includes breakfast, whereas all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) will be provided during the trek. A staple food in the mountainous regions is potatoes, oats, buckwheat, Sherpa stew and Tibetan bread. Sherpa’s’ started farming potatoes when the first seeds were introduced to the region in the early 90s. There is a limited choice of food at higher elevations and except many potato dishes. Potatoes are high in carbohydrates – an excellent source of energy needed at high altitudes.
Physical fitness
Some days can be challenging where you often have to walk 6-8 hours a day. You don’t need past experience of hiking or trekking but if you have done any kind of trekking activities then it is always a plus! We have met people from all walks of life, shapes, and sizes who have completed the trek. The only difficult part is when altitude sickness strikes and the effect that it can have on your body. Before leaving for Nepal it is good if you can prepare yourself physically by increasing your stamina and oxygen intake.
Best season to travel
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is usually done in autumn (Sept. to November) and spring (March to May) when you are much more likely to get to have crystal clear views of the mountains and can also enjoy the lush vegetation in the lower regions of the trail - particularly during spring..
Remember – The better prepared – the more enjoyable your trek!
Transportation
We use a private car for sightseeing and for the airport to hotel pick and drop off. We take the bus from Bensisahar to Kathmandu. In the past Aarughat used to be the starting point of the trek but nowadays, due to better road conditions we can travel by bus direct to the Soti Khola. We will travel along secondary (rough) roads all the way to Soti Khola by local bus and from Dharapani to Besishahar we will be traveling by private jeep
Guide and Porter on the trek
We provide you trained & certified trekking guides and porters who will take care of all logistics and a porter for every two trekkers who will each carry about 20 kg ( 10 kg for each trekker). An experienced guide and porter will be the difference between success and failure. They will also save you from taking unnecessary risks during poor weather conditions.

As the trek progresses through Jagat, Lokpa, and Chumling, you officially enter the Tsum Valley, a formerly restricted area that preserves ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture, untouched landscapes, and monastic life.
Highlights include overnight stays in Chhokangparo, Nile, and a spiritual visit to Mu Gompa, the valley’s largest and most revered monastery. Surrounded by towering peaks and timeless customs, you'll gain insight into a unique Himalayan lifestyle.
Rejoining the Manaslu Circuit, the trail leads through Chumling, Deng, and Namrung, offering panoramic views of Mount Manaslu (8,163m) and other Himalayan giants. In Samagaon, you’ll acclimatize and can optionally visit the Pungyen Gompa or hike to Manaslu Base Camp.
The ultimate challenge and reward come with the Larkya La Pass, a dramatic high-altitude crossing that offers sweeping views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, and Annapurna II. Descending into the stunning Bhimthang Valley, you'll pass alpine meadows and glaciers before continuing through lush forests and Gurung settlements to Dharapani.
From Dharapani, a private vehicle brings you back to Kathmandu, concluding this 14-day Himalayan trek filled with sacred sites, rugged mountain terrain, and unforgettable cultural encounters.
Ideal for experienced trekkers or fit adventurers, this shortened Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek offers the perfect blend of nature, culture, and high-altitude excitement—expertly guided and managed by Sherpa Expedition and Trekking Pvt. Ltd.
Itinerary
Your journey begins early with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dovan via private jeep, offering your first glimpse of Nepal’s rural landscapes, river valleys, and terraced hillsides. From Dovan, the trek starts with a gentle uphill walk to Jagat, a traditional village with stone-paved streets and entry point to the Manaslu Conservation Area. Overnight stay in Jagat.
After breakfast, the trail continues along the Budhi Gandaki River, crossing suspension bridges and passing charming settlements. The trail to Lokpa branches off toward the Tsum Valley, offering a less-trodden path with stunning forested landscapes. Lokpa marks the entrance to the mystical Tsum Valley, a region rich in Tibetan Buddhist culture.
Today’s trail descends through dense pine forests and climbs steeply before reaching Chumling, your first overnight stop in the Lower Tsum Valley. Here, you’ll notice traditional Tibetan-style houses, stone mani walls, and beautiful views of Ganesh Himal. Explore the nearby Chumling Gompa for an introduction to local spiritual life.
Ascending into the Upper Tsum Valley, the trail crosses the Shiar Khola River and passes through alpine landscapes dotted with chortens and mani walls. Arrive at Chokhangparo, a scenic village set against a backdrop of Himalayan peaks. Weather permitting, you’ll enjoy views of Himalchuli and Ganesh Himal. Rest here to begin gradual altitude adaptation.
Continue your cultural journey as the trail passes through remote villages and reaches the Nile and finally Mu Gompa, the largest monastery in the Tsum Valley, located near the Tibetan border. Surrounded by majestic mountains, Mu Gompa offers incredible peace and panoramic views. Explore ancient monastic halls and observe the monastic lifestyle preserved for centuries.
Retrace your steps back to Chokhangparo, allowing for another opportunity to connect with local villagers and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. The descent provides new perspectives of the valley's landscape and sacred Buddhist landmarks.
Descend gradually back through Lower Tsum Valley, passing the same trail with renewed appreciation. The walk to Chumling is pleasant and allows time to rest and enjoy village hospitality after the high elevation days.
Exit the Tsum Valley and rejoin the main Manaslu Circuit trail. Today’s walk descends to Deng, a small village nestled among cliffs and forests. The trail offers changing vegetation, river crossings, and occasional glimpses of snow-capped peaks.
The trail climbs steeply through bamboo and rhododendron forests to Namrung, a culturally rich village with strong Tibetan Buddhist influence. You’ll notice a shift in architecture and attire. Namrung is also a great spot for photography, offering stunning views of Himalchuli and Manaslu.
Continue through picturesque villages like Lho and Shyala, with panoramic views of Mount Manaslu (8,163m). Arrive at Samagaon, one of the largest settlements in the region. Here, you can visit the Pungyen Gompa or relax and acclimatize before the big pass. This is a cultural and scenic highlight of the trek.
Today’s hike is shorter but crucial for altitude adjustment. The trail ascends steadily to Dharamsala (also known as Larkya Phedi), the base camp for the Larkya La Pass. Stay hydrated and rest well in preparation for the next day’s pass crossing.
Start early for the epic crossing of Larkya La Pass, the most physically demanding yet rewarding section of the trek. The high alpine terrain, snowfields, and glacial views make for an unforgettable experience. After reaching the summit, enjoy dramatic views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II, before descending to the beautiful valley of Bimtang.
Today’s descent passes through dense forests of rhododendron and pine, alpine meadows, and scenic riverside trails. You’ll reach Dharapani, a vibrant village at the junction of the Annapurna Circuit, where your trek officially ends. Enjoy a comfortable night before returning to Kathmandu.
After breakfast, drive back to Kathmandu via Besisahar, enjoying the changing scenery from alpine forests to mid-hill farmland. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be transferred to your hotel, marking the end of your incredible 14-day Manaslu Tsum Valley adventure.

Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek 17 Days
Overview
Join 17 Days Manaslu Tsum valley with Sherpa Expedition this trek also known as Beyul Kyimolung is a secret holy valley of bliss, as described by Guru Rimpoche (Padmasambhava) in the 8th century. And now, 13 centuries later, Tsum Valley (Hidden Valley) still stands as the valley of bliss in every sense. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking’s 17 Days Manaslu Tsum Valley Trekking will take you on an adventure to the seventh heaven.
This trekking route was opened to trekkers only in 2007 AD. Being so secluded and far-flung for so long, this region has sustained its image as a mysterious and enchanting valley.
Manaslu Tsum Valley lies in the historical district of Gorkha Manaslu. During Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek, you will explore two beautiful and remote villages, Chumchet and Chhekampar. The word “Tsum” means vivid in the Tibetan language.
The Views of High Himalayas, especially Manaslu, the eights highest mountain in the world is absolutely spectacular. Also views of Buddha, Himal Chuli to the west, Mount Ganesh Himal to the south and Sringi Himal to the north is also absolutely gratifying. This Trekking has exactly the right amount of adventure and thrill of it. The highest elevation we will climb during Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek will be Ngula Dhojhyang Pass at 5,093m and Larkya La Pass at 5106m. This Pass located in Nepal and China Tibet Border.
During this trek you will walk through the desolate and uncharted country of “Tsumbas”, mainly inhabited by the Gurungs inclined towards Tibetan Buddhism. The region has a very long story of Buddhism and we will pass through ancient Gompas and Chortens of huge historical and religious importance. It is believed that Milarepa, a celebrated Buddhist saint meditated in the caves of Tsum Valley.
The Manaslu Tsum Valley paths are decorated with artistic Chortens and Mani Walls made of innumerable stone slabs engraved with drawings of mythical deities and prayers. The locals celebrate Lhosar, Dhacyhang, Saka Dawa, and Faning among others. The tradition and lifestyle of the locals are highly influenced by ancient Tibetan Buddhism.
In the most restricted regions of Nepal, the arrival of tourists is highly controlled by government officials. One must acquire a special permit to enter the region. The archeological and religious relics of this region are unexplored so far.
A bonus of Manaslu-Tsum Valley Trek – the locals have claimed to encounter the Yeti several times here! We will relish in the natural hot spring of Tatopani, which is believed to have healing properties.
A special feature exclusively offered by Sherpa Expedition and Trekking’s Manaslu Tsum Valley Trekking is you will get a chance to visit and have private lessons with the Buddhist Lama. You can learn the basic teachings of Buddhism. We will also help coordinate a special blessing ceremony and meditation for interested clients.
Join with Sherpa Expedition and Trekking’s 17 Days Manaslu Tsum Valley Trekking and experience the life in Trans Himalayan Region!

Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek 20 Days
Overview
Imagine the most iconic mountain in Nepal. Mt. Manaslu (8th highest mountain in the world at 8156m) will top this list. It is clearly what we imagine a mountain to look like with its distinctive appearance located in a distant region in the vast Tsum Valley (Hidden Valley).
This trek circumnavigates Mt. Manaslu and passes through the far-reaching areas of Tsum Valley at an altitude of 1905m to 5093m, rich in Tibetan culture, traditions, and ancient art and mostly unaffected by modern civilization.
On this trek, you will be exposed to the ancient customs of Tibetan Buddhism while appreciative of their unique daily rituals and lifestyle in these far-off and relatively untouched regions of Nepal.
Tsum Valley is encircled by Boudha Himal and Himal Chuli in the west, Ganesh Himal in the south and Siringi Himal (7187m) in the north. The trail heads through two major villages in the region, Chumling (Lower Tsum) and Chhaikampar (Upper Tsum). The valley is rich in Tibetan culture with many Mani walls, chortens and prayer flags along the trail and houses some of the holiest of Tibetan monasteries where the famous sages Guru Rinpoche and the Tibetan philosopher Milarepa once meditated in nearby caves. It is a place where the trekker can learn about oneself and discover peace through meditation.
We begin our adventure with a drive from Kathmandu to Arughat where our trek begins. The trail takes us past the numerous cultivated fields and through small villages as we negotiate the Budhi Gandaki Valley along the riverbanks until we reach Lapubesi Village. The trail takes us to the therapeutic hot springs of Tatopani passing through forests on the way there. It is not long before you can see the enormous mountain ranges, such as Sringi Himal on the way to Philim. We pass Chumling Village and then continue on the trail to Gumba Lungdang Pass while walking through pine and rhododendron forests before we have to cross the Siyar Khola (river). We then continue on to the Ganesh Himal Base Camp and to Lokpa. The trail then heads to Lokpa, Ghap and to Lho as we pass through several Gurung and Thakali villages. At Samagaun we stop for the day to better acclimatize before climbing to higher altitudes. Leaving Samagaun we head up to Samdo, Dharamsala and cross the Larke La Pass (5,106m) and on to Chame where the trek ends.
Sherpa Expedition & Trekking have been in this business for more than 40 years and are experts in this field. We will arrange all permits, meals and accommodation along the trek.

Breakfast included.

Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek 21 Days
Overview
This epic adventure explores the iconic Mt. Manaslu region and the immense Tsum Valley (Hidden Valley).
This trek circumnavigates Mt. Manaslu (8th highest mountain in the world at 8156m) and through the far-reaching region of Tsum Valley located at an altitude of 1905 to 5093 meters that is rich in Tibetan culture, traditions, and ancient art. This region has remained mostly untouched by modern civilization.
This region is mostly home to Tibetan Buddhist villagers who perform their unique daily rituals and live a lifestyle reflecting their faith.
Tsum Valley is bordered by Boudha Himal and Himal Chuli in the west, Ganesh Himal in the south and Siringi Himal (7187m) in the north. The trail takes us through two significant villages in the region, Chumling (Lower Tsum) and Chhaikampar (Upper Tsum). The valley is rich in Tibetan culture with numerous Mani walls, chortens and prayer flags adorn the trail and is home to many of the holiest Tibetan monasteries and is where the famous sages Guru Rinpoche and the Tibetan philosopher Milarepa once worshipped and meditated in nearby caves. It is a place where the trekker can discover oneself and realize peace through meditation.
We first drive from Kathmandu to Arughat where our trek begins. The trail takes us past cultivated fields and through small villages as we pass through the Budhi Gandaki Valley until we reach Lapubesi Village. The trail takes us to the therapeutic hot springs of Tatopani passing through forests along the trail. It is not long before you can see the huge mountain ranges, such as Sringi Himal on the way to Philim. We pass Chumling Village and then follow the trail to Gumba Lungdang Pass while walking through pine and rhododendron forests before we have to cross Siyar Khola (river). We then follow the trail to the Ganesh Himal Base Camp and on to Lokpa. The trail then heads to Lokpa, Ghap to Lho as we pass Gurung and Thakali villages. MANASLU TSUM VALLEY TREK - 23 DAYS
At Samagaun we spend the day acclimatizing before heading to higher altitudes. From Samagaun we ascend to Samdo, Dharamsala and then cross the Larke La Pass (5200m) and continue on to Chamje where the trek ends.
Itinerary
On arrival at Kathmandu airport, you will be met by a representative from Sherpa Expedition & Trekking who will take you to your 3-star hotels. You can rest at your hotel or stroll around Thamel and do some last-minute shopping and take in the sights.
After breakfast, you will meet your trekking leader when he will go over what is required for the trek, such as your Manaslu & Tsum Valley Restricted area trekking permit. You will also need 3 passport size photos and a copy of your travel insurance policy. The rest of the day is free and will allow you to explore Kathmandu and visit many famous landmarks, such as Swayambhunath, Bouddhanath, Pashupatinath, and Kathmandu’s Durbar Square. You may also wish to catch up on shopping for any last-minute requirements for your trek.
We will either take a public bus or car, stopping along the way for a lunch break. Tonight we will stay at Soti Khola near the river..
Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
Our trek today traverses a mule track and ascends on a breathtaking path cut into the face of the cliff, then descends to Lapubesi (880m). Caution is required here! We then continue to Nauli Khola, crossing a suspension bridge on the way and then take the trail beside the Budi Gandaki River before reaching Machha Khola (900m). This so happens to be where many trekkers were stranded after the earthquake in 2015 and had to be rescued, Depending on current conditions, there is an alternative overnight stop in Kashi Gaun located on the east side of the river.
Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
Our route today follows the river to Khorlabesi and the tepid spring at Tatopani (meaning hot water) (930m), and then continues on the eastern bank of the Budi Gandaki River to Doban, Thulo Dunga and Yara Bagar (1370m). The trail zigzags across the river with several suspension bridges to cross before reaching the entrance gate to Manaslu Conservation Area and Jagat (1410m), with its unique flagstone village square. Permits are checked by authorities. Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will check that the route is passable, and may suggest we take an alternative route taking a much higher path on the east side of the river before descending to the old trail near Doban.
Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
Our short trek of 4 hours today leads downhill to Chhule and then to Phurbe where it is possible to find Sherpa homestays. We follow the trail along the banks of the Siyar River until reaching a nunnery at Rachen Gompa (3240m). Tonight we stay at Rachen Gompa.
Today we cross a river then pass by the village of Chhokang Paro at which point we descend to Chumling. Prior to reaching here we come to a white monastery and head down to the Siyar Khola (river), a good place to rest and refresh. We stay at Chumling for the night.
Today we climb beyond the Tom Khola to Longa Chuta and then come into a captivating fir and rhododendron forest filled with birds and Langur monkeys located on the north side of the Buri Gandaki River. We then cross back to the other side of the river before reaching Namrung (2660m), an earlier customs post in the days when this was a route for transporting salt from Tibet. Namrung also suffered extensive damage from the 2015 earthquake, but today it has been restored to its previous charm.
Our trek today is about 5 hours and along the way, we have spectacular views of Sringi and Ganesh Himal. The village of Namrung is where from here on you will see mostly Tibetan villages and their religious symbols and monasteries. As the trail continues we will pass through forests and farmlands where barley is grown on the terraced hillsides. The trail starts to expose the giant peak of Manaslu right up to Lho Gham Village where we stay the night. In the morning we have a great opportunity of capturing the mountain views from our lodge or the Gompa.
Today the trail passes through several Tibetan villages and past Gompas. After a 4 hour trek we reach Samagaun where we will stop and relax and get used to the higher altitudes. While here we can explore the village and enjoy the welcoming smiling faces of the people. The architecture here is distinctly Tibetan and their costumes reflect their Tibetan origins. We can also take a short hike up to a Gompa above the town or wander the streets and chit-chat with the locals – a very heartwarming experience. Tonight we stay at Samagaun.
At these higher altitudes it is necessary to get acclimatized, for at least one day, before attempting climbs to higher altitudes. Health specialists suggest that you move about and don’t sit idly. A good way to stay active is to explore the Gompa at Pugyen (4070m), a one day hike that leaves the trail between Syaula and Sama.
The valley the expands before reaching Kermo Khadka and then continuing to the white Kani Gateway signaling the entrance to Samdo (3860m).
The trail today crosses ridges and across wooden bridges over the Budi Gandaki River. After crossing two rivers we come to Larkya Glacier and then climb to Larke Phedi (4450m) meters. Tonight we stay at Dharamsala..
Today’s trek is about 8 to 9 hours but first starts with a short climb to the north side of Larkya Glacier. From this vantage point, we have excellent views of Cho Danda and Larkya Peak. The climb to the Larkya La (5100m) pass initially is quite a gradual ascent but gradually becomes steeper as we reach the pass. After arriving at the top of the pass we are blessed with incredible panorama views of various mountain ranges. The descent from the pass is equally physically demanding. We soon arrive at Bhimthang where we stay the night in a teahouse.
Today we have awesome views of Manaslu, Lamjung Himal, Himlung Himal and Cheo Himal along with views to the valley and forests below. We cross the Dudh Khola (river) and trek through rhododendron forests, and past the village of Karche (2785m) which you will find is the highest farmland in the region. We stop for a brief rest at Gho Village before making our way to our overnight stop at Tilje.
A 6 to 7 hour trek today along a stony trail, across a ridge and through Tibetan villages eventually sees us descending to the Marsyangdi Valley and further on to Dharapani where we connect with the classic Annapurna trail. We pass through Karte Village and cross the Marsyangdi Khola (river), past Mani walls and enter the village of Tal and finally reach Chamche where we stay the night.
Today we drive back by public transport or private vehicle to Kathmandu following the Marsyangdi and Trishuli rivers and passing through Besisahar Village, the district headquarter of Lamjung Province. This evening in Kathmandu we have a celebration dinner catered for by Sherpa Expedition & Trekking where we can look back on our adventure into this remote and pristine region of Nepal. Tonight we stay at hotel in Kathmandu.
Our representative will take you to the airport around 3 hours before departure. This is only ‘farewell’ until we see you again for your next expedition into the Himalaya region.
