EVEREST THREE PASS TREK
Overview
The Everest Three Pass Trek is one of the most challenging and rewarding trekking adventures in Nepal. This epic journey crosses three high mountain passes — Kongma La (5,535m), Cho La (5,420m), and Renjo La (5,360m) — offering trekkers unparalleled views of the towering Himalayas, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Ama Dablam. Ideal for experienced hikers seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience, this trek combines spectacular scenery, remote Sherpa villages, and a deep cultural immersion in the Khumbu region.
Starting with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region, the trek leads through iconic Sherpa towns like Namche Bazaar, Dingboche, and Gokyo. Unlike the traditional Everest Base Camp Trek, the Three Pass Trek takes you beyond the classic route to explore less-traveled trails and glacial lakes, including the stunning Gokyo Lakes — considered sacred by locals.
Crossing the three passes is physically demanding due to the high altitude and rugged terrain. Proper acclimatization is crucial, and the itinerary is designed to allow rest days in key locations to help trekkers adjust safely. The trek offers jaw-dropping views of Everest and neighboring giants, especially from Kongma La Pass and Renjo La Pass, where you’ll witness panoramic Himalayan vistas that few other treks can match.
Along the way, you'll experience authentic Sherpa hospitality, visit ancient monasteries like Thame and Tengboche, and walk through the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its unique wildlife and breathtaking landscapes.
The Everest Three Pass Trek is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that blends physical challenge, natural beauty, and cultural richness, making it a must-do for seasoned trekkers who want to experience the Everest region in its full glory.
Itinerary
A representative from Sherpa Teams will meet you at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel – the tourist hub of Kathmandu. On arrival at your hotel, there will be a briefing regarding your Everest Three Passes Trek.
This morning we drive to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu Airport for the 35-minute flight to Lukla where we land on a precarious strip of tarmac overlooking the Dudh Koshi River. We have quite an easy trek to Phakding. This trek takes us through farming lands of the Sherpas and passes through several villages on the trail. Nowadays, many Sherpas make their living solely from providing support to trekkers. We will also pass by many mani stones, which are stones carved in Tibetan script, and of course, you will see loads of prayer flags along the trail. We then arrive at our lodge on the banks of the Dudh Koshi River.
Today we cross the Dudh Koshi River and late we show our trek permit at the Sagarmatha National Park office in Monju, the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park. We then ascend to Namche Bazaar crossing the Hillary Suspension Bridge. We will stay in Namche Bazaar at a teahouse.
Before climbing to higher altitudes it is necessary to acclimatize. Health experts recommend we stay active and moving during the rest day. Today we can choose between taking a hike to Thame or visit Khunde, or relax and explore Namche Bazaar – the home to many Sherpas employed in the trekking business. Namche Bazaar is the main centre of the Everest (Khumbu) region and has government offices, ATMs, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants, a bakery, and a vibrant market each Friday evening and Saturday. If we decide to take a vertical trek during the day it will help us to properly acclimatize. Our guide will also take us to the Tourist Visitor Center close to the headquarter of the Sagarmatha National Park where we can see a variety of artifacts related to the first Everest climbers, learn about the Sherpa culture and the many flora and fauna of the Everest region.
On the trail to Tengboche we have some amazing views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. The trail zigzags through the hills until we reach Tengboche where we will stay overnight at a teahouse.
The early morning light at Tengboche provides us with a perfect photo opportunity of the surrounding scenery. On the trail, we pass numerous Chortens and Mani walls and several small villages and will stop for lunch at a village with a reputation for serving delicious food. In the afternoon we head north to Pheriche or alternatively can follow an eastward trail beneath the towering north face of Mt Ama Dablam. The trail is fairly easy-going as we enter the Imja Valley that slowly widens as we get nearer to the Lobuche River. We will then head down to the river and then have a steep climb heading up to Dingboche. Dingboche is unusual in that its fields are surrounded by stone walls, protected them from grazing animals and strong winds, with crops of barley, buckwheat, and potatoes. Tonight we stay at Dingboche.
Today is another very important day on the trek and is dedicated to helping us acclimatize before heading to higher altitudes. A short trek to the Nagarjuna Hills offers some marvelous views of Mt. Makalu and will also help us to acclimatize. Medical experts recommend being active rather than sit idle during this process of acclimatization.
From Dingboche it is only a short trek to Chhukung, the final settlement of the Khumbu region around Imja Tse (also known as Island Peak) with its magnificent panoramic views of snowcapped mountains with Mt. Makalu in the east. After arriving at Chhukung we can rest or hike to Chhukung Ri for more astonishing views of the mountains. It will also allow us time to prepare for our early morning departure to Kongma-la Pass.
Before dawn we follow the trail along an icy path and then on a stony trail beneath Kongma La Pass and Kongma Peak– also known as Mera Peak. We then cross over Kongma La Pass at (5,535m) that is wedged between Mt Nuptse Wall, Mohare and Pokalde peaks. After a hard climb towards Khumbu Glacier and moraine (rocky ground) we have a fairly steep trail up to the base of the Khumbu Glacier before arriving at Lobuche where we will stay overnight.
Today we head from Gorak Shep and then cross the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. On the trail, we pass the signpost pointing to the Italian Pyramid (scientific research center). A little further along the trail, we can see the crest of the north ridge of Everest, as well as Mt. Pumori, Mt. Mahalangur, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbutse & Mt. Nuptse. A short climb leads us to Thangma Riju from where we have 360-degree panoramic views of the snow-covered mountains. After a steep climb, and crossing the Changri Glacier, we get our first peek of Kala Patthar, a rocky knoll below Mt. Pumori. After reaching Gorakshep we are blessed with a jaw-dropping panorama of the surrounding snow-covered peaks, including Mt. Everest. Upon reaching Mount Everest Base Camp we have time to wander around and ponder over how the early mountaineers felt when considering their climb to the summit. From EBC we head back to Gorak Shep for the night.
An early morning start takes us to Kala Patthar (known as black rock), a well known landmark that offers the most exquisite panoramic view of numerous surrounding peaks, including a close-up of Mt. Everest. We then head back to Gorak Shep and then on to Dzongla situated at the base of Cho La Pass. We will stay at Dzongla the night.
We have another early start to the day as we trek to Thangnak where we get a magnificent view of Mt Cholatse (6440m). The trek heads in a westerly direction from Dzongla. Today is the hardest day of our trek as we ascend to Cho La Pass (5420m). On reaching the highest point of the valley we trek through Cho La Pass taking in some of the most beautiful views of Chola Lake and Mt. Amadablam. The climbing today can be quite hard going due to it being rugged and with rocks glazed over with ice. Upon reaching the top of the pass we then ascend to Thangnak for the night.
And yet another early morning start as we begin our trek to the small village of Gokyo at the base of Mt Gokyo. On the trail, we have some incredible mountain views. After leaving Longponga (4720m) we continue uphill on a trail that leads to Gokyo that has an astonishing view of Tanjung Tsho Lake (4710m). After a short trek along the edge of the Ngozumpa Glacier (36 km is the longest glacier of Nepal), we arrive at Gokyo.
This morning we can climb Gokyo Ri and have some fantastic panoramic views of some of the world’s highest peaks, including Mt. Cho Oyo, Gychung Kang, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Cholatse, Tawache and Mt. Makalu in the east. This is truly one of the highlights of this trek. We will then descend to Gokyo Lake. Another option is a trek to Gokyo’s 5th lake that will take around 5 hours and will take us to the very base of Mt. Cho Oyu - the world’s 6th highest mountain situated on the border with Tibet. From here we will also have views of Mt. Everest, Changtse and the enormous ice wall of Cho-Oyu.
Up before dawn again we head off to our final high pass following the trail at the end of Gokyo Lake at which point we are again able to see several enormous snow-covered peaks: Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse and Taboche before crossing through Renjo La Pass. This is also one of the most physically demanding days of our trek, but once we arrive at the top of the pass we will have spectacular 360-degree views of Mt. Cho-Oyu and other peaks. After a short break, we continue on the trail to the frozen lakes below Renjo La Pass before heading on a long downhill trek to the small village of Lundgren – close to Nangpa-La Pass where we will stay at a teahouse overnight.
This morning we head along a trail used for centuries by the Tibetan traders to Thame Village. We first pass Bhote Koshi, and then come to Taranga Village. At Thame we have some more incredible views of Thamserku, Katanga and Kusum Kanguru. We then head across the suspension bridge arriving at Samde where we head down a steep path to Thame Village which is home to a Khari Gompa (Buddhist monastery) for nuns. Finally we arrive at Namche Bazaar where we will stay overnight.
Today is the final day on the trail of the Everest Three high pass trek. Today we leave Namche Bazaar and head to Lukla. It is nearly all downhill and is hard on the legs. Tonight we will stay at a teahouse in Lukla.
Immediately after breakfast, we head back to Kathmandu after our long and tiring mountain adventure. After arriving at Kathmandu we will take you to your 3-star hotels in Thamel where you can finally put your feet up and relax.
Today you will leave Nepal with some wonderful memories of your Everest Three Pass trek. A representative from Sherpa Expedition and Trekking will take you to the airport at least three hours prior to your departure. On your journey home you can start planning another great adventure to this mountainous country.

Good to Know
Accommodation
You will be accommodating in a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu. During the trek teahouses/lodges are readily available. Due to excellent infrastructure, the teahouse of this trek is relative of high quality but at the higher elevation or up ahead from the Namche, you will not be able to find a standard accommodation, the rooms are basic normally with a bed, blankets and a pillow.
Meals and Drinks during the trek
Breakfast will be served in Kathmandu and all meals (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner) are included during your trek in the Himalayas. The teahouses of this trek are quite standard and serve you authentic Nepalese food and International cuisines too (Tibetan, Indian, Continental, etc.). Please carry water purifying pills as you get to have stream water also note that you have an option of buying bottled water.
Physical Fitness and Difficulty Level
The Three Passes Trek is highly rated as a challenging trek than the classic Everest Base Camp Trek so this trek is suitable for trekkers who have had past experience of trekking, this does not mean you need to be an athlete’s or marathon runner. However, the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy it. This may sound difficult to the first time trekkers, who are concerned that they won’t keep up; all you need to do is walking, jogging, cycling, and hiking near the valley before embarking.
Altitude Sickness
Trekking in the higher elevation is physically demanding than trekking in the lower elevation. Going up at higher elevation too fast causes altitude sickness, it generally happens when your body fails to adapt to the decreasing amount of oxygen available on high altitude as we ascend higher above 2500m.
Prevention of Altitude Sickness
- Allow your body to have sufficient time for acclimatization.
- Do not travel alone, take a guide or travel with a group of people.
- Say no to alcohol, sleeping pills, and smoking.
- At least drink 3 to 4 liters of clean water a day.
- Do not make rapid ascend.
- Avoid getting cold.

Bottled water is easily available at a low cost. But you can not use plastic bottles in the Everest region. So, they do not sell plastic bottled mineral water. You need to drink mineral water or boiled filtered water in those areas. It is better to use water purification drops and tablets which you can either bring from your own country or buy in Kathmandu or Pokhara. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking also provides water purifier pills.

Everest Three High passes Trekking 19 Days
Overview
Here is a trek that will take you into the heart of snow-covered Himalayan Mountains, to alpine glaciers and an opportunity to see snow leopards, musk deer, red panda, and other indigenous species in the Sagamartha National Park. This has been one of the most popular destinations for climbers and trekkers since Mt. Everest was first climbed by Sir Edmund Hilary & Norgay Tensing in 1953.
The Everest High Three Pass trek will take you to high altitudes and will include crossing Renjo La Pass (5360m), Cho-La Pass (5420m), and Kongma-La Pass (5535m). You will also have some fantastic views of Mt. Gokyo Ri (5,360m), and climb Mt. Kala Patthar (5,545m) and visit Everest Base Camp (5,364m). The incredible landscape and magnificent views during the trek are unbelievable. Personal fitness is critical due to trekking at these high altitudes. It is important that you do some preparation prior to joining this trek. This is a rare opportunity to look skyward to four towering 8,000m plus peaks; Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m), Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m) and Mt. Everest (8,848m). This trek also takes us to the remote valley of Nangpa La and the Sherpa villages of Thame and Marlung.
It is a physically demanding climb to Dingboche (4410m), Kongma-La Pass (5535m) via Tengboche (3860 m) and Kongma La Pass (5550m). The views from these places will be embedded in your memory for the rest of your life. Kongma La Pass is the highest pass of these three passes. From Dingboche we head higher and after crossing Khongma La Pass via High Camp we reach Lobuche (4910 m) and then head to Gorekshep (5140m). Gorekshep is a cross-road where the trail leads to Kala Patthar and Everest Base Camp. For some of the very best views of Mt. Everest we trek to the well known vantage point at Kala Pathar (5644m) - commonly referred to as ‘black rock”. It is mostly down-hill from here as we trek back to Gorekshep and then down to Everest Base Camp (5360m) via Gorak Shep (5164m). At EBC we can see the Khumbu Glacier, the world’s highest glacier and one that you have to pass on your way to Everest.
From EBC we descend to Lobuche and then on to Cho-La pass (5420m), the trickiest of the three passes, starting near Lobuche Kharka through to Thangnak. On the trek to Thangnak Kharka via Dzongla (4830m) we can see Awi Peak (5245m), Lobuche Peak, Nirekha Peak and other snow clad mountains. After taking in the spectacular views of these mountains in the vicinity of Everest we continue on to Gokyo through the Gokyo Valley and its many lakes, after which we then climb to Gokyo Ri (5420m) considered as the best viewpoint in the entire Himalayas. Leaving Gokyo Ri we head to High Camp via the Renjo-La Pass 5360 m. As with Gokyo Ri, the Renjo-La Pass offers us similar great views of the Himalayan Ranges. Leaving High Camp, we head back down to Thame via Lungden (4380m) and Marlung (4210 m). Continuing down we trek to Lukla via Namche Bazaar completing the round-trip through the 3 passes.
Sherpa Teams have been taking tours into the Himalayan Mountains since 1977 and have an excellent reputation for taking good care of their clients. We will take care of all permits, meals and accommodation on the trek.
Itinerary
A representative from Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will meet you at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel – the tourist hub of Kathmandu. On arrival at your hotel, there will be a briefing regarding your Everest Three Passes Trek. Our representative will provide you with a route map and other useful information.
In order to reach higher altitudes, we will spend two days acclimatizing. Health experts recommend we stay active and moving during the rest day. Today we can choose between taking a hike to Thame or visit Khunde, or alternatively relax and explore Namche Bazaar – the home to many Sherpas employed in the trekking business. Namche Bazaar is the main hub of the Everest (Khumbu) region with government offices, ATMs, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants, a bakery, and of course a colorful market each Friday evening and Saturday. If we decide to take a vertical trek during the day it will help us to properly acclimatize. Our guides take us to the Tourist Visitor Center near the headquarter of the Sagarmatha National Park where we can see a variety of artifacts related to the first Everest climbers, learn about the Sherpa culture and the numerous flora and fauna of the Everest region.
Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
Sherpa Expedition and Trekking route divert west; contouring the hillside reaching the ridge looking down at Namche and the trek follows the gradual winding path up the Bhote Kosi River valley, once a popular trading route into Tibet. In Thame, we can see the excellent views of Teng Kangpoche and Kwangde and to the north is the Nangpa-la 5,710m pass leading to Tibet. Overnight at Thame.

After crossing the Cho-la pass, the trail reaches Dzongla where we can stop overnight at a teahouse with basic dorm rooms and cozy dining. Overnight at Dzonga. Breakfast Lunch and Dinner included.
After having breakfast, the trail goes up to Lobuche. We keep on our trek along the moraine of the glacier and surrounding scenery of Chola Che. Pumori and there are beautiful views of the Everest base camp. After lunch, we ready ourselves for today’s adventure to the targeted destination and continue our trek towards the Everest Base Camp and to the Khumbu Ice-fall. The path from here can be misleading. Make sure to follow the lead Sherpa since every year the trail changes due to the movements of the glacier. The walk is quite and strenuous due to the high altitude and thin air. The walk passes over rocky dunes and moraine and streams until you reach the base camp. If you are trekking during the high expedition season it may feel like a city up there. It takes 2-3 hrs to get to base camp and after a grand time here go back over the journey to Gorekshep for the overnight at lodge. Breakfast Lunch and Dinner Included.
Very early in the morning, we will have to climb up 2 hours to Kalapather for a 360-degree view of the mountain peaks. Everest Three High pass Trek 21 Days
Overview
This trek is a stunning adventure into the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Sagarmatha National Park region of Nepal. It is a physically tough 18-day trek crossing three high altitude passes - Renjo La Pass (5388 m), Cho La Pass (5380 m) and Kongma La Pass (5535 m); trekking through scenic valleys of Khumbu, Bhotekoshi, Gokyo, and Imja Tse; and incredible views. We will also climb to Mt. Gokyo Ri (5483m), Kala Pathar (5545m) and Chukung (5550m) before we arrive at Everest Base Camp – the launch-pad to the world’s highest peak Mt Everest (8848m).
We will visit the turquoise blue Gokyo Lakes (4,700–5,000m); Mt. Gokyo Ri (5357m); and visit the remote trading route between Nepal and Tibet - Nangpa La Pass. We will also visit the large Sherpa village of Marlung (4260m) and the Thame Tibetan Buddhist Monastery – the oldest in the Khumbu region, thought to have its origins in the 17th century. The monastery sits 200 meters above Thame Village on the side of Sumdur Mountain. Imagine yourself surrounded by snow-covered mountains, amidst alpine glaciers and a chance to see the elusive snow leopard, musk deer and red panda.
Lukla is the usual starting point, but if you have more time then you can start from Jiri, Lukla, Phaplu or Salleri. It is a challenging ascent to Dingboche (4410m), Kongma-La Pass (5535m) via Tengboche (3860 m) and Kongma La Pass (5550m). The views from these places are breathtaking. Kongma La Pass is the highest of the three passes. From Dingboche we ascend to higher elevations and after crossing Khongma La Pass via High Camp we reach Lobuche (4910 m) and then Gorakshep (5140m). Gorakshep is the intersection where the trail heads to Kala Patthar and Everest Base Camp. For the best views of Mt. Everest we trek up to the well-known vantage point at Kala Patthar (5644m) - also referred to as ‘black rock”. It is all downhill from here as we head back to Gorakshep and on to Everest Base Camp (5360m) via Gorak Shep (5164m) At EBC we can view the Khumbu Glacier, the world’s highest and one that climbers have to navigate through on their way to Mt. Everest.
From EBC we descend to Lobuche and then to Cho La Pass (5420m), the most difficult of the three passes - starting near Lobuche Kharka and going through to Thangnak. On the trek to Thangnak Kharka via Dzongla (4830m) we view Awi Peak (5245m), Lobuche Peak, Nirekha Peak and other mountains. We then head to Gokyo via the Gokyo Valley with its many lakes, and then ascend to Gokyo Ri (5420m) said to be the best viewpoint in the entire Himalayas. After leaving Gokyo Ri we head to High Camp via Renjo La Pass 5360m. As with Gokyo Ri, Renjo La Pass also provides incredible views of the Himalayan Ranges. After leaving High Camp we descend to Thame via Lungden (4380m) and Marlung (4210 m). Further down we come to Lukla, via Namche Bazaar, having completed the round-trip trek through the three high passes.
This is without doubt one of the best and more all-inclusive treks in the Everest region. This trek is suited to those who are physically fit and prepared to push themselves and reach these far-flung places and enjoy the challenge of crossing the three high altitude passes. The best time of year to do this trek is in autumn (Sept to November) and spring (March to May) when there is less snow that may make trekkin more difficult.
Sherpa Teams will attend to permits, food and accommodation on the trail.
Itinerary
A representative from Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will greet you at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel, a bustling and thriving tourist hub of Kathmandu. On arrival at your hotel there will be a briefing regarding your Everest Three Passes trek and our representative will provide you with a route map and other useful information. No meals included today.
After breakfast at your hotel, we will begin our tour of the city. Your guide will pick you up in a vehicle and take you to Bouddhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist temples in the world, where we will see Buddhist monks in prayer in the monasteries and around the stupa. We will then visit Pashupatinath, the most famous Hindu temple in Nepal, located on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Here Hindu holy men (sadhus) sit in meditation, pilgrim’s bath in the river and sometimes we will see funeral pyres burning on the ghats. Our next stop is at Bhaktapur Durbar Square, which is a collection of pagoda and shikhara – style temples that encompass a fifty-five window palace constructed of brick and wood. Bhaktapur Durbar Square is also remembered by the Lion Gate, the Golden gate and the palace of fifty-five windows, various art galleries and a statue of King Bhupatindra Malla. We will stay in Kathmandu tonight at 3 star hotel.
This morning we head off to the airport and have a 35-minute flight to Lukla and land on a narrow tarmac overlooking the Dudh Koshi River. The trek then takes us through terraced farmlands of the Sherpas and through several villages. Many Sherpas earn a living solely from providing support to trekkers and climbers. We will also pass many Mani stones, which are stones carved in Tibetan script, and of course, pass the ever-present colorful Tibetan prayer flags scattered along the trail. We will then arrive at our lodge located on the banks of the Dudh Koshi River.
Today we cross the Dudh Koshi River and later we will have to show our trekking permit at the Sagarmatha National Park office in Monju - the official entrance to World Heritage Listed Sagarmatha National Park. We then climb to Namche Bazaar after crossing the Hillary Suspension Bridge. We will stay in Namche Bazaar overnight.
Today it is imperative that we spend time acclimatizing before heading higher. Health experts recommend we stay active and on the move during the day. Today we can take a hike to Thame or visit Khunde, or wander around and explore Namche Bazaar – the home to many Sherpas employed in the trekking industry. Namche Bazaar is the business center of the Everest (Khumbu) region and has government offices, ATMs, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants, a bakery, and a lively market each Friday evening and Saturday. If we choose to take a more vertical trek during the day it will help us to better acclimatize. Our guide will also take us to the Tourist Visitor Center near the headquarter of the Sagarmatha National Park where we can see a selection of artifacts related to the first Everest climbers, and learn more about the Sherpa culture and flora and fauna of this region.
Today on the trail to Tengboche we have some incredible views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. The trail zigzags through the hills until we arrive at Tengboche where we will stay the night at a teahouse.
On the trail today we pass various Chortens and Mani walls and a number of small villages. We will stop for lunch at a village that has a reputation for itself by serving delicious food. In the afternoon we head north to Pheriche - or can follow an eastward trail beneath the lofty north face of Mt Ama Dablam. The trail is easy-going as we enter the Imja Valley that slowly widens as we get nearer to the Lobuche River. We will then descend to the river before a steep ascent up to Dingboche. Dingboche is remarkable in that its fields are surrounded by stone walls that protect them from grazing animals and strong winds. The fields are planted in crops of barley, buckwheat, and potatoes.
Today is another very important day on the trek and is set aside to help us acclimatize before heading to higher altitudes. A short trek to the Nagarjuna Hills affords some magnificent views of Mt. Makalu and will also help us to better acclimatize. Medical experts recommend being active rather than sitting idle during this acclimatization process.
The trail from Dingboche is quite a short distance from Chhukung, that happens to be the last settlement of the Khumbu region around Imja Tse (also known as Island Peak), with its outstanding panoramic views of snow covered mountains and with Mt. Makalu in the east. After coming to Chhukung we can either rest or trek to Chhukung Ri for more incredible views of the surrounding snow clad mountains. It will also better prepare us before our early morning trek to Kongma La Pass.
Before sunrise, we head out on the trail along an icy and rocky path beneath Kongma La Pass and Kongma Peak– also known as Mera Peak. We then cross Kongma La Pass at (5,535m) that sits jammed between Mt Nuptse Wall, Mohare and Pokalde peaks. After a physically tough climb to Khumbu Glacier and moraine (rocky ground), we will arrive at Lobuche where we will stay the night.
Today we take the trail from Gorakshep and cross the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. A little further down the trail we can see the crest of the north ridge of Mt. Everest, as well as Mt. Pumori, Mt. Mahalangur, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbutse & Mt. Nuptse. A short ascent takes us to Thangma Riju from where we have 360-degree panoramic views of the snow-covered mountains. After a steep ascent, and crossing the Changri Glacier, we get our first look at Kala Patthar, a rocky black knoll situated below Mt. Pumori. After reaching Gorakshep we have more panoramic views of the surrounding snow-covered peaks - including Mt. Everest. Upon reaching EBC we have time to explore and chew over how the early mountaineers felt when preparing themselves physically and mentally for their climb to the summit. From EBC we head return to Gorakshep for the night.
An early morning start to the day takes us to Kala Patthar (known as a black rock), a famous landmark and view point in the region that offers the most outstanding panoramic view of numerous surrounding peaks - including a close-up of Mt. Everest. We then head back to Gorakshep for breakfast and will then continue down do Dzongla where we will stay the night at a teahouse.
This morning we wake up to a fantastic view of Mt. Cholatse. We then have a tough slog to Dzongla and then descend to the basin. Climbing up from here we have views of Chola Lake and Mount Ama Dablam. The steep climb is littered with boulders as we head to Bergschrund. At the top of Cho La Pass (5420m), we have more amazing mountain peaks. The descent to Dragnag is much easier going unless the rocks are covered over with ice that will make this a little more slippery and treacherous going. We will stay at a teahouse at Dragnag tonight.
This morning we leave this small village and head across the Ngozumpa Glacier that happens to be the longest glacier in Khumbu Region. As we reach the far side of the glacier we can see the second Gokyo Lake - which is one of six lakes. At the edge of the third lake, we can see Gokyo Valley. We will stay the night here at a teahouse.
This morning we climb to Gokyo Ri and have some fantastic panoramic views of some of the world’s highest peaks: Mt. Cho Oyo, Gychung Kang, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Cholatse, Tawache and Mt. Makalu in the east. This is definitely one of the highlights on this trek. We will then head down to Gokyo Lake. Another option is a trek to Gokyo’s 5th lake that will take approximately 5 hours and will lead us to the foot of Mt. Cho Oyu - the world’s 6th highest mountain situated very close to the Tibetan border. From here we will also have views of Mt. Everest, Changtse and the massive glacier of Cho-Oyu.
We are up before dawn again and follow the trail to the final high pass that begins at the end of Gokyo Lake from where we are again able to see several massive snow-covered peaks: Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse, and Taboche before crossing through Renjo La Pass. This is also one of the most physically challenging days of our trek, but once we get to the top of the pass we will have glorious 360-degree views of Mt. Cho-Oyu and other snow-capped peaks. After a short break, we head to the frozen lakes below Renjo La Pass before having a long descent to the small village of Lundgren – close to Nangpa La Pass where we will stay at a teahouse tonight.
This morning we first head off to Thame village, passing Bhote Koshi and then descending to Taranga and finally to Langmuche Khola (river). At this point, we can see Thamserku, Katanga, and Kusum Kanguru from the teahouse. Thame also hosts a famous Buddhist Gompa (temple). We then follow the trail to Samde, another place from where we have stunning mountain views. From here we head down a steep trail to Thame Village where there is Khari Gompa – a Buddhist monastery and nunnery. Our trail continues past mani walls, chortens, and the ever-present Tibetan prayer flags before arriving at Namche Bazaar.
Today is our final day of the Everest three high pass trek. Today we leave Namche Bazaar and head to Lukla via Phakding. Notwithstanding that it is all downhill, it is hard on the legs. Tonight we will stay at a teahouse in Lukla.
Shortly after breakfast, we head back to Kathmandu after our long and grueling mountain adventure. After arriving at Kathmandu we will take you to your 3-star hotels in Thamel where you can sit back and relax. If you are thinking of extending your stay in Nepal there are several options, such as a visit to Chitwan National Park, known for wildlife viewing, and to Pokhara – Nepal’s second-largest city and its famous– Phew Tal (lake). You will stay at a 3-star hotel tonight in Kathmandu.
Today is a rest day – and well earned too! You may opt for a massage or wander around Thamel City and buy souvenirs before heading home. You may also visit the Garden of Dreams where you can sit in a parkland setting and relax. This is also a spare day in the event we cannot fly from Lukla due to adverse weather. This evening we have a farewell dinner where you can say your goodbyes to your guide and fellow trekkers. Tonight we will again stay at a 3-star hotel.
Your three high pass trekking adventure and time in Nepal ends today. A representative from Sherpa Expedition and Trekking will drop you at the airport at least three hours prior to your scheduled departure. We hope that before your next visit you will contact us and allow us to take you into the marvelous Himalayan Mountains.

Everest Three High Pass Trek 22 Days
Overview
This is a physically challenging 22-dayy adventure and takes you across three high altitude passes - Renjo la (5388m), Cho La (5380m), and Kongma La (5535 m); through picturesque deep lush valleys and offers views of numerous massive peaks: Khumbu, Bhotekoshi, Gokyo, and Imja Tse. Besides the high passes, you will also climb several peaks: Mt. Gokyo Ri (5483m), Kala Patthar (5545m), and Chhukung (5550m) before reaching the legendary Everest Base Camp – the launching pad to the world’s highest mountain – Mt. Everest (8848m).
The list of places to see on this 19-day trek includes the vivid turquoise blue Gokyo Lakes (4,700–5,000m); Gokyo Ri (5357m); trek to the rarely visited and remote trading route between Nepal and Tibet -Nangpa La Pass; the large Sherpa village of Marlung (4260m) and the Thame Tibetan Buddhist Monastery – the oldest in the Khumbu region dating back to the early 17th century. The monastery sits 200 meters above Thame on the side of Sumdur Mountain and offers awesome views of the Himalayan Mountains.
This is one of the most jam-packed and extensive treks in the Everest region. This trek is ideally suited to those with a good level of fitness and for those who want to venture well off the beaten track to remote locations. The high altitude 3 passes make it necessary for the trekker to be fit and healthy. The altitude exhausts you and makes it much tougher going than other treks at lower elevations. The ideal time of year to do this trek is in autumn (Sept to November) and spring (March to May) minimizing the chance of being snowed in and unable to cross the passes.
Lukla is the ideal and usual starting point of this trek. However, if you have more time then you can extend the trek by starting from Jiri, Phaplu or Salleri. Sherpa Teams is happy to customize this trek to suit your time schedule.

We then cross Kongma La Pass at (5,535m) that sits wedged between Mt Nuptse Wall, Mohare and Pokalde peaks. After a tough climb towards Khumbu Glacier and moraine (rocky ground) we then arrive at Lobuche where we will stay overnight.
Today we head from Gorakshep and cross the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. A little further along the trail we can see the crest of the north ridge of Everest, as well as Mt. Pumori, Mt. Mahalangur, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbutse & Mt. Nuptse. A short climb takes us to Thangma Riju from where we have 360 degree panoramic views of the snow capped mountains. After a steep ascent, and crossing the Changri Glacier, we get our first our first look at Kala Patthar, a rocky black knoll below Mt. Pumori. After reaching Gorakshep we have some fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding snow covered peaks, including Mt. Everest. Upon reaching Mount Everest Base Camp we have time to explore and contemplate how the early mountaineers felt when planning their climb to the summit. From EBC we head back to Gorakshep for the night.
An early morning start takes us to Kala Patthar (known as black rock), a famous landmark in the region that offers the most superb panoramic view of numerous surrounding peaks - including a close-up of Mt. Everest. We then head back to Gorakshep and to Lobuche for the night.
Today we head out from Lobuche and down to Dzongla. After that we trek up to where we can see the nearby Chola Tsho Lake. We continue to trek by crossing the Chola Khola over a bridge before reaching Dzongla. We will stay at Dzongla at guest house for the night.
Today is physically the hardest day of our trek as we ascend to Cho La Pass (5420m). On reaching the highest point of the valley we trek through Cho La Pass taking in some of the most gorgeous views of Chola Lake and Mt. Amadablam. The climbing today can be quite hard going due to it being rugged and with rocks glazed over with ice. Upon reaching the top of the pass we then ascend to Gokyo for the night.
This morning we ascend to Gokyo Ri and have some incredible panoramic views of some of the world’s highest peaks that include: Mt. Cho Oyo, Gychung Kang, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Cholatse, Tawache and Mt. Makalu in the east. This is definitely one of the highlights of this trek. We will then descend to Gokyo Lake. Another option is a trek to Gokyo’s 5th lake that will take around 5 hours and will take us to the base of Mt. Cho Oyu - the world’s 6th highest mountain situated close to the border with Tibet. From here we will also have views of Mt. Everest, Changtse and the enormous glacier of Cho-Oyu.
We arise before dawn again and head off to our final high pass following the trail at the end of Gokyo Lake from where we are again able to see several enormous snow covered peaks: Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse and Taboche before crossing through Renjo La Pass. This is also one of the most physically demanding days of our trek, but once we get to the top of the pass we will have magnificent 360 degree views of Mt. Cho-Oyu and other snow covered peaks. After a short rest period we continue to the frozen lakes below Renjo La Pass before heading on a long descent to the small village of Lundgren – close to Nangpa La Pass where we will stay at a teahouse overnight.
This morning we head along a trail that has been used for centuries by the Tibetan traders heading to Thame Village. We first pass Bhote Koshi and then arrive at Taranga Village. At Thame we have some more stunning views of Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Katanga and Mt. Kusum Kanguru. We then cross the suspension bridge before arriving at Samde where we head down a steep trail to Thame Village which is home to a Khari Gompa (Buddhist monastery) for nuns.
This morning we leave the Sherpa village of Thame that is far less crowded than other routes to Everest. Thame is also home to Apa Sherpa who has climbed to the summit of Everest 21 times. Today the trail is peaceful and will give you a feeling of being secluded from the normal hustle and bustle of daily life. The trail is mostly downhill all the way to Namche Bazaar. Tonight we will stay at a guest house here.
Today is our last day on the trail of the Everest three high pass trek. Today we leave Namche Bazaar and head to Lukla via Phakding. Despite it all being downhill it is hard on the legs. Tonight we will stay at a teahouse in Lukla.
Soon after breakfast, we head back to Kathmandu after our long and exhausting mountain adventure. After arriving at Kathmandu we will take you to your 3-star hotels in Thamel where you can put your feet up and relax. If you are looking to extend your trip, there are several options, such as a visit to Chitwan National Park, known for wildlife viewing and to Pokhara – Nepal’s second-largest city and is famous for its beautiful lake – Phew Tal. You will stay at a 3-star hotel tonight.
After and exhausting climbing and trekking adventure today will be a rest day. You can wander around Thamel and do some last minute shopping for souvenirs or maybe visit the Garden of Dreams to relax. This spare day is necessary in the event our flight from Lukla was delayed due to bad weather. You will stay the night at a 3 star hotel.
Your trekking adventure and time in Nepal comes to an end today. A representative from Sherpa Expedition and Trekking will drop you at the airport at least three hours prior to your scheduled departure.

EVEREST THREE HIGH PASS TREK 10 DAYS
Overview
The Everest Three High Passes Trek is a legendary journey crafted by the Sherpa Expedition Team for seasoned trekkers and climbers. This challenging route is not recommended for beginners, as it demands excellent physical fitness, the ability to trek 8–9 hours a day, and prior experience at altitudes above 5,000 meters. It offers one of the most comprehensive and scenic trekking experiences in the Everest region, crossing the three highest passes of Khumbu.
Your adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the starting point of most Everest region treks. From there, the trail leads you to Phakding and then to the vibrant Namche Bazaar (3,440m), the main hub of the Khumbu Valley and a key location for acclimatization. After a rest day here, the trail veers off the popular path, heading toward the lesser-visited village of Lungden.
The first major challenge is Renjo La Pass, which rewards trekkers with breathtaking views of the Gokyo Lakes and a panoramic sweep of the Everest range. After the pass, the trail descends into Gokyo, a serene village beside crystal-clear turquoise lakes. A hike up Gokyo Ri offers one of the most stunning viewpoints in the Himalayas, showcasing Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.
Next, the trek heads toward Thagnak, a small settlement at the foot of the second high pass. The following day, you’ll take on the steep and icy Cho La Pass, which connects the Gokyo region with the traditional Everest Base Camp route. After crossing this demanding pass, you’ll merge with the classic trail and continue toward Everest Base Camp — a dream destination for trekkers around the world.
From Base Camp, you will ascend to Kala Patthar, a famous vantage point that offers the best ground-level views of Mount Everest, especially at sunrise. The trail then descends to Lobuche, preparing you for the third and final pass: Kongma La. This is the toughest of the three passes and requires strong stamina, but the views and sense of achievement make it worthwhile.
After crossing Kongma La, the trail drops down to Chhukung, a peaceful village surrounded by towering peaks. From there, you’ll descend to Dingboche, another important Sherpa settlement ideal for rest and reflection. The trek concludes with an exhilarating shared helicopter flight back to Lukla, offering stunning aerial views of the terrain you just conquered, followed by a return flight to Kathmandu.
The Everest Three High Passes Trek is the ultimate test of endurance, skill, and spirit in the Himalayas. It combines remote landscapes, iconic mountains, and immersive Sherpa culture to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those prepared to take on the challenge.
Itinerary
Your epic journey begins with a thrilling early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. From Lukla, you start trekking through beautiful pine forests and crossing suspension bridges as you descend slightly towards the Dudh Koshi River. The trail gradually ascends to Jorsalle, a small village nestled in the valley. This first day sets the tone with scenic mountain views and a chance to acclimate slowly to the Himalayan environment.
Leaving Jorsalle, the trail becomes steeper as you climb towards the traditional Sherpa village of Thame. This less-traveled route offers a quiet atmosphere, rich with local culture and stunning Himalayan panoramas. You pass through rhododendron forests and terraced fields, enjoying views of majestic peaks like Ama Dablam. Thame is a serene village where you can learn about Sherpa life and prepare for the higher altitude ahead.
Today’s trek is a rewarding ascent through remote and rugged terrain as you make your way to Lungden. The path winds through high alpine landscapes dotted with prayer flags and mani stones. Lungden is a small, isolated village, offering breathtaking views of towering Himalayan giants. The air is thinner here, and this is a key point to focus on acclimatization while enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
This is one of the most challenging but spectacular days of the trek. You climb steadily to the Renjo La Pass at 5,446 meters, rewarded with panoramic views of Everest, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. The descent leads to the serene Gokyo Lake, known for its turquoise waters and reflection of the towering peaks. Gokyo village offers a quiet place to rest and soak in the breathtaking alpine scenery.
Start early with a hike up to Gokyo Ri, one of the best viewpoints in the region. From the summit, you’ll enjoy sweeping vistas of Everest, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu. After soaking in the views, descend back to Gokyo village and continue trekking to Thangnak. This village, nestled in a rugged valley, offers a cozy stopover before the challenging Cho La Pass tomorrow.
Today you tackle the tough Cho La Pass, a steep and icy crossing requiring good balance and endurance. The climb offers stunning glaciers and snow-capped peaks as your backdrop. After crossing, descend to Dzongla, a small settlement where trekkers rest and recover. The dramatic landscape and sense of achievement make this a memorable day on the trek.
From Dzongla, you descend and join the classic Everest Base Camp trail. Reach the iconic Everest Base Camp, a pilgrimage site for climbers worldwide. After spending time exploring the area, retrace your steps to Gorak Shep for overnight. The surrounding views of the Khumbu Glacier and towering summits make this day a highlight of the entire trek.
An early morning ascent to Kala Patthar rewards you with arguably the best close-up views of Mount Everest at sunrise. The panorama includes Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse, bathing in golden light. After the summit experience, descend to Lobuche, a lively mountain village known for its teahouses and spectacular views. This day blends physical challenge with awe-inspiring scenery.
Today’s trek is a demanding crossing of the highest of the three passes, Kongma La. The path leads through snowfields and moraine valleys, testing your stamina and trekking skills. After the pass, descend into the tranquil village of Chhukung, surrounded by towering peaks and glaciers. This remote stop offers a peaceful place to rest and reflect on the challenges overcome.
From Chhukung, descend to Dingboche, a bustling Sherpa village ideal for a final rest. Later, enjoy a shared helicopter flight back to Lukla, offering breathtaking aerial views of the mountains and valleys you trekked through. From Lukla, catch your flight to Kathmandu, where your unforgettable Himalayan adventure concludes with memories to last a lifetime.

SHORTERST EVEREST THREE HIGH PASS TREK 11 DAYS
Overview
The Shortest Everest Three High Pass Trek is a thrilling and demanding adventure that is best for experienced trekkers in search of an extraordinary challenge in the Everest region. It is not an easy trek and its 11 days definitely take its toll on beginners; as three major high passes — Kongmala Pass, Renjo La Pass, and Cho La Pass — cause it to take some effort to get to their breathtaking view of the horizon, and even when it takes one you should be sure of one's stamina and altitude tolerance. Spread into steep climbs, rugged terrain, and high-altitude tests, the trek is perfect for experienced prospects looking out for an extreme Hindu Kush experience.
The adventure starts with a flight to Lukla from Kathmandu at dawn which is reputed to be one of the most exciting airports on the planet. The flight is a breathtaking view of the Himalayas, and is the beginning of your trek. Upon landing in Lukla, you will start your trek (a hike to Jorsalle, a small settlement in the foothills). This pause grants you a little respite before proceeding to the sacred Everest site of Tengboche Monastery. The hike from Lukla to Tengboche offers spectacular views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and other massive peaks, acclimatizing you for the ordeal to come.
Once at Tengboche, you’ll make your way towards Chhukung, where you’ll dedicate a day to acclimatization and preparing for all the high-altitude high-water marks ahead. The first pass you’ll cross is the Kongmala Pass at over 5,500 meters (18,000 feet). This is one of the highest points of the trek with a 360-degree view of Everest massif & another mountain. After crossing the Kongmala Pass, you’ll head to Everest Base Camp, a bucket-list destination that many trekkers have only one such trip in their life. The proximity allows close-up views of Everest’s impressive sheer face, and being at the base of the world’s highest peak is a true moment of awe!
Then it’s the hike up to Kala Patthar, one of the most photographed views in the Everest area. To witness the sunrise from Kala Patthar is to see Everest and its neighbors illuminated with the first light of day.
After Base Camp and Kala Patthar, you'll descend through Dzongla before tackling Renjo La Pass. More than 5,300 meters (17,500 feet) high, this pass has sweeping views of Makalu, Cho Oyu, and other towering Himalayan behemoths. Crossing the Renjo La leads hikers down the other side, or toward the illustrious Gokyo Lakes — a handful of glacial turquoise bodies of freshwater aligned by soaring mountain forms.
On the last few days of the trek, you’ll pass through Thame, a quiet Sherpa village, then trek down first to Phakding, and finally back to Lukla. Fly back from Lukla to Kathmandu - This is the end of an exciting, challenging, and memorable journey.
The Shortest Everest Three High Pass Trek is a tough and challenging trek that takes you through some of the most beautiful and remote areas of the Everest region. Its not for the faint of heart, but for those willing to test the limits of their endurance and to witness the Himalayas in all its untamed beauty.

Once you reach the top, the views are awe-inspiring, including spectacular vistas of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu. After crossing the pass, descend to Gokyo, where you'll find beautiful alpine lakes and stunning mountain views.
You will start the day by crossing the Renjo La Pass, another high-altitude pass with incredible views of Everest, Makalu, and Lhotse. After reaching the top, you’ll descend to Thame, a Sherpa village with a peaceful atmosphere, for an overnight stay.
Today, you’ll trek down the valley, passing through several villages as you descend toward Phakding. The trail is less demanding, and you'll have time to reflect on the incredible journey you've experienced as you make your way down to Phakding for the night.
On the final day of trekking, you’ll make your way back to Lukla, where your journey began. The trail will follow the Dudh Koshi River, passing through more villages and offering great views along the way. Once you reach Lukla, you’ll have the evening to relax before your flight back to Kathmandu the next day.
After an early breakfast, you'll board a flight back to Kathmandu, marking the end of your Everest Base Camp Three High Pass Trek. You will arrive in Kathmandu in the early afternoon, with a sense of accomplishment from completing one of the world’s most incredible treks.

Due to its altitude, this trek is not for the faint of heart — or only high-altitude trekking beginners: It crosses steep, rugged terrain and three of the highest passes in the Everest region (Kongmala Pass, Cho La Pass, and Renjo La Pass). Yet the highest ascent of the day is a grueling climb of 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) of steep trail, and this is not for the faint-hearted, strength and skill to make such a trek are not achieved easily but rewards are unrivaled a breathtaking trek into the heart of the beautiful Khumbu region, with far-reaching views of Mount Everest and the other giant peaks.
Your journey starts with one of the world’s most spectacular flights, from Kathmandu to Lukla, famous for its dramatic approach through the Himalayas. After a few minutes of being airborne, you land in Lukla. Your trek starts by going down the steep jungle of Sagarmatha National Park towards Jorsalle. (Along the way, you’ll pass through varied landscapes, pristine rivers, and quaint Sherpa villages that give a hint of what’s to come.)
From Jorsalle, you’ll hike toward Namche Bazaar, a bustling Sherpa village and the gateway to Everest. Here is where you will acclimatize to the elevation and hike for a short duration to the Everest Viewpoint, where you will be breathless from the panoramic views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and neighboring peaks.
Prepare for one last trek to Kyanjoma, a small village perched with unbelievable views of the mountains around. A much-needed stop to refuel and refresh before heading higher. You then trek on to the Tengboche area, where you’ll visit the iconic Tengboche Monastery, and afterward continue on to Pangboche and the picturesque settlement of Dingboche, surrounded by alpine meadows and rugged topography.
After a day in Chhukung to rest and acclimatize, you will do the Chhukung Ri hike (5,550 meters) which provides amazing views of Makalu and Lhotse and the other surrounding peaks. This steep is very important for acclimatization to higher elevations.
After fully acclimatizing to the region, you will trek across the physically demanding Kongmala Pass (5,535 meters), gaining you panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and other Khumbu region mountains. From there, you’ll continue your trek to Everest Base Camp, at the foot of the looming Khumbu Icefall, one of the most iconic sights on this planet.
The next major attraction is the hike to the summit of Kala Patthar (5,550 meters), which is the highest point of the entire trek and will also offer one of the finest views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse. After this, you’ll make your way across Dzongla and face the difficult Renjo La Pass (5,360 meters), where you will be rewarded with yet other gorgeous panoramic views of the Everest massif and surrounding mountains.
You’ll hike onto the picturesque Gokyo Lakes and then climb on to Thame, a tranquil Sherpa hamlet, and Phakding. You'll head back to Lukla from Phakding and take your flight back to Kathmandu where your fantastic adventure ends.

After crossing Renjo La, you'll descend into the village of Thame, a peaceful Sherpa settlement. Rest and soak in the atmosphere of this beautiful mountain village.
On Day 11, the trail descends towards Phakding. As you make your way down, you’ll pass through beautiful forests and cross rivers via suspension bridges. Phakding offers a chance to rest and reflect on the challenges and triumphs of the trek.
On the final trekking day, you’ll make your way back to Lukla, retracing the path you took at the start of your adventure. It’s a relatively short trek, allowing you time to relax and reflect on the incredible journey you’ve just completed.
Your trek ends with a scenic flight back to Kathmandu. Take in the last views of the Himalayas as you return to the bustling capital of Nepal, where your Everest Three High Pass Trek adventure concludes.

The 14 Days Mount Everest Three Pass Trek in the Khumbu region of Everest is an especially designed mountain adventure for trekkers who are searching for the ultimate buzz and challenge. This route offers a superb opportunity for trekkers to experience the physically demanding high passes of the Khumbu region, namely Renjo La Pass (5,360m), Cho La Pass (5,420m) and Kongma La Pass (5,535m) as you head to Mt. Everest Base Camp (EBC). Mt. Everest is where Tenzing Norgay (Nepal) and Edmund Hillary (New Zealand) made history by being the first to reach its summit (8,848m/29,021ft). Kongma La Pass discovered by Local Sherpas is the highest and most challenging pass to cross. Renjo La Pass is the smallest pass in the region.
The trek offers some fantastic views of four of the world’s eight highest peaks; Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m), Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516m) and Mt. Everest (8848m). Other peaks you encounter on the trail are Gokyo Ri (a famous view point) and Kala Patthar. These two peaks and Everest Base Camp are the highlights of this awesome mountain adventure.
Everest Three High pass Trek has more to offer than just mountains. The Sherpa people and their villages are rich in culture and tradition. Their strong Tibetan Buddhist faith is apparent everywhere, from the design of the homes, their Gompas (temples) and the ever present colorful prayer flags along the trail. These hardy people have a well deserved reputation as high altitude mountain climbers and as porters for many trekkers heading into the mountains. Along the trail you can expect to see many animals, birds and unique plant species.
This is a once in a lifetime adventure and Sherpa Expedition and Trekking will make it an unforgettable journey into the Himalayan Mountains. We will take care of all permits, meals and accommodation on the trail. Our government accredited guides will ensure that you are safe and well looked after.
Itinerary
After breakfast in your hotel, we drive to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu Airport for the 35-minute flight to Lukla landing on a precarious strip of tarmac overlooking the Dudh Koshi River. Today we meet our porters and then have lunch at the Yeti Mountain Home Lodge and then begin with a relatively easy trek descending to Phakding. This trek takes us through farming lands of the Sherpas passing through several villages along the way. Nowadays, many Sherpas make their living solely from trekking. Along the trail we can stop at one of many tea houses for refreshments and a chat with the locals. We will also pass by many mani stones (a form of prayer) which are stones carved in Tibetan script, and of course, you will see many strings of prayer flags along the trail. We then arrive at our lodge on the banks of the Dudh Koshi River where we stay the night. Breakfast, lunch & dinner are included.
Today the trail takes us through a beautifully scented pine forest along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River crossing several suspension bridges along the way. The most well known of these suspension bridges is the Hillary Suspension Bridge – named after Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man (along with Sherpa Tensing to climb Everest). Our trail gives us a view of Mt. Thamserku (6618 m) before passing through the small villages of Benkar, Chumoa & Monjo just prior to the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park. The final village we pass is Jorsale before ascending through forests and crossing several bridges until we reach the head of the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. A steep climb of about 2 hours gives us our first glimpse of Mt. Everest just above the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. Arriving at Chautara we can again reach for our cameras and take in the views. We continue on for about 1.5 hours to reach Namche Bazaar, well known as the gateway to Mt. Everest and the main trading hub of this region – the Bagmati Zone. Tonight we stay at Namche Bazaar. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
Today we head off to Tengboche and along the trail have our first views of several enormous peaks: Ama Dablam (6812m), Lhotse Shar (8393m), Taboche (6495m), Khangtega (6782m), and Thamserku (6623m). As we continue we come to an Army barrack at Phunke Tenga (22335m) and arrive at Tengboche where we stop for lunch. After lunch we visit the famous Tibetan Tengboche Buddhist monastery and later continue on the trail and pass the Sagarmatha National park office at Debouche. Continuing we finally reach Pangboche and visit the Gompa (temple). Tonight we stay here.
From Pangbohe, there is a short hike to Chhukung, the final settlement of the Khumbu region around Imja Tse (also known as Island Peak) with its magnificent panorama of snowcapped mountains with Mt. Makalu in the east. After arriving at Chhukung we can rest or hike to Chhukung Ri for more amazing views of the mountains. It will also allow us time to prepare for our early morning departure to Kongma-la Pass. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
Our day begins before dawn trekking along an icy path and then a stony trail beneath Kongma-La Pass and its Kongma Peak– also known as Mehra Peak. We then cross Kongma-La Pass at (5,535m) nestled between Mt Nuptse Wall, Mihara, and Pokalde peaks. After a strenuous climb towards Khumbu Glacier and moraine (rocky ground), we take a fairly steep trail up to the base of the Khumbu Glacier to arrive at Lobuche for an overnight stop in the comfort of a warm and comfortable lodge. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
Set off on a thrilling trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp, a journey that spans about 15 kilometers and takes 6-7 hours. As you navigate the rugged path, be enchanted by the sweeping vistas of the Himalayas and the dramatic Khumbu Icefall. Reaching Everest Base Camp (5364m) offers an unforgettable experience, with unparalleled views of the world's highest peak and the surrounding snow-clad giants. After soaking in the awe-inspiring beauty, make your way back to Gorak Shep. This leg of the trek promises both challenge and wonder, culminating in a well-earned rest amid the grandeur of the Himalayas.
An early morning start takes us to Kalapatthar (known as black rock) a well known landmark that offers the most exhilarating panoramic view of surrounding giant peaks including a close-up of Mt. Everest. We then head back to Gorakshep and then onward to Dzongla, at the base of Cho-La Pass. at Dzongla where we stay the night. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
Rising early we then trek to Thangnak and get a magnificent view of Mt Cholatse (6440m). The trek heads in a westerly direction from Dzonglha. Today is the toughest day of our trek as we head to Cho-La Pass (5420m). On reaching the highest point of the valley we begin our trek through Cho La Pass taking in some amazing views of Chola Lake and Mt.Amadablam. The climbing can be quite difficult due to being rugged and with rocks glazed over with ice. Upon reaching the top of the pass we then haed downhill to Thangnak – a more relaxing descent! Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
An early morning start and then begin our trek to the small village of Gokyo at the base of Mt Gokyo. Along the trail we will have some fantastic mountain views. After leaving Longponga (4720m) we continue uphill on a trail that leads to Gokyo with a magnificent view of Tanjung Tsho Lake (4710m). After a short walk along the edge of the Ngozumpa Glacier (36 km is the longest glacier of Nepal). In the evening we can choose to climb Gokyo Ri, and get a panoramic vista of some of the world’s highest peaks, including Mt. Cho Oyo, Gyachung Kang, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Cholatse, Taweche and Mt. Makalu in the east. This is truly one of the highlights of the trek! We then descend to Gokyo.
Up before dawn, we head off to our final high pass following the trail at the end of Gokyo Lake where along the way we are again gifted with more awesome views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse and Taboche, before crossing Renjo La Pass. This is also one of the most demanding parts of our trek, but once we reach the top we will be rewarded with spectacular 360-degree views of Mt. Cho-Oyu and other towering peaks. After a short break, we continue our trek to the frozen lakes below Renjo La Pass before heading on a long trek downhill to the small village of Lungdeng – close to Nangpa-La Pass The trail then takes us to Marlung village where we stay for the night just above the Bhote Koshi River. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
Leaving Marlung we follow a gradually ascending trail until we reach Thame Village with its own hydropower generator. On the trail we pass several Khumbu villages, pine and rhododendron forests just prior to reaching Namche Bazaar. Our trek continues as we head back to Monjo near the Sagarmatha National Park where we stay the night. Breakfast, lunch & dinner.
In the morning we follow the trail to Phakding and then head back to Lukla.Tonight we celebrate our achievements and reminisce sharing the highlights and photos of this jam-packed mountain trek. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
Today, in the morning, we fly back to Kathmandu after our epic mountain journey. After arriving in Kathmandu we can either rest or wander around Thamel doing some last-minute shopping. Breakfast Included.

Everest Three High Pass Trek 15 Days
Sherpa Expedition And Trekking will attend to permits, food and accommodation on the trail.

We tighten our shoelaces this very morning and march forward to conquer the summit of Chhukung Ri located at the elevation of 5,550m asl. The top of this peak rewards our days’ long physical and mental effort via mesmerizing glimpses of Ama Dablam and Amphu Labsa in close proximity. In addition, we can also gaze the 3600 views of surroundings with heavenly natural settings. We capture these marvellous moments in our minds and cameras then return back to Chhukung Valley.
Everest Three High Pass Trek 16 Days
Overview
This 16 day trek that will take you into the heart of the Himalayan Mountains, to alpine glaciers and give you a chance to see snow leopards, musk deer, red panda, and other indigenous species in the World Heritage Listed Sagamartha National Park. This has been one of the most popular trekking destinations for climbers and trekkers since Mt. Everest was first climbed by Sir Edmund Hilary & Norgay Tensing in 1953.
The Everest High Three Pass trek will take you to high altitudes and includes crossing Renjo La Pass (5360m), Cho-La Pass (5420m) and Kongma-La Pass (5535m). You will also have some incredible views of Mt. Gokyo Ri (5,360m), and climb Mt. Kala Patthar (5,545m) for its fantastic views of Everest and visit Everest Base Camp (5,364m). The amazing landscape and splendid views during the trek are astonishing. Personal fitness is critical on this trek due to trekking at higher altitudes. It is recommended that you prepare yourself physically prior to joining this trek. This is a exceptional opportunity to look to the heavens at four towering 8,000 meter plus peaks; Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m), Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m) and Mt. Everest (8,848m). This trek also leads us to the isolated valley of Nangpa La and to the Sherpa villages of Thame and Marlung.
It is a physically hard climb to Dingboche (4410m), Kongma La Pass (5535m) via Tengboche (3860m) and Kongma La Pass (5550m). The views from these places will be implanted in your memory for the rest of your life. Kongma La Pass is the highest pass of the three passes on this trek. From Dingboche we head higher and after we cross Khongma La Pass via High Camp we come to Lobuche (4910 m) and then to Gorekshep (5140m). Gorekshep is a cross-road where the trail leads to Kala Patthar and Everest Base Camp. For some of the very best views anywhere in Nepal of Mt. Everest we trek to the celebrated vantage point at Kala Pathar (5644m) – also referred to as ‘black rock”. It is mostly down-hill from here as we follow the trail back to Gorekshep and then down to Everest Base Camp (5360m) via Gorak Shep (5164m). At EBC we can see the Khumbu Glacier, the world’s highest glacier that you pass on your way to Mt. Everest.
From EBC we descend to Lobuche and then on to Cho La Pass (5420m), the most challenging of the three passes that begins near Lobuche Kharka and heads through to Thangnak. On the trek to Thangnak Kharka via Dzongla (4830m) we can see Awi Peak (5245m), Lobuche Peak, Nirekha Peak and other snow covered mountains. After taking in the magnificent views of these mountains - in the vicinity of Everest, we continue on to Gokyo through the Gokyo Valley and past its many lakes from where we then climb to Gokyo Ri (5420m) - considered as the best viewpoint in the entire Himalayas. Leaving Gokyo Ri we head to High Camp via the Renjo La Pass 5360m. As with Gokyo Ri, the Renjo La Pass offers us similarly great views of the Himalayan Ranges. After leaving High Camp we descend to Thame via Lungden (4380m) and Marlung (4210m). Continuing downhill we follow the trail to Lukla via Namche Bazaar completing the round-trip trek through the three passes.
Sherpa Expedition & Trekking (Est.1977) have an excellent reputation for taking good care of their clients. We will take care of all permits, meals and accommodation on the trek.
Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
After breakfast in Namche we trek towards Tengboche and along the way get to see some of the most spectacular views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam and close up view of Thamserku (6608m). The trail is relatively easy-going with some undulations, but we are comforted by the numerous views of the Himalayas. Another feature of this trail is the wildlife, such as musk deer, Himalayan Thar and colorful pheasants. The trail then takes us to Kayangjuma (3600m) and on to . Sansa, the crossroad that leads to Gokyo valley and Everest Base Camp. The trail takes us through a pine forest and then across the bridge, decorated with prayer flags, over the Dudh Koshi River. We eventually arrive at Phunki Thenga, a small village with several teahouses and a small army post set among an alpine forest. After lunch at Phunki Thenga we prepare for a more demanding climb up through pine forests before we reaching Tengboche with its magnificent views of Mt Ama Dablam, Mt Nuptse, and Mt Everest. Tengboche also boasts of having the largest Buddhist Monastery in the Khumbu region. In the afternoon, around 3 p.m. we visit the monastery to witness a religious ceremony by the monks. We spend the night at a lodge here in Tengboche. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
In the early morning, with mountains in the background, the monastery is even more stunning. The early morning light provides us with a perfect photo opportunity of the surrounding scenery. Leaving Tengboche we take the higher trail that provides us with better views as we head to Pangboche village. On the trail we pass numerous Chortens and Mani walls and several small villages. We stop for lunch at a village well-known for its delicious food, and can also take in the close-up view of Mt Ama Dablam. In the afternoon we trek north to Pheriche or alternatively follow an eastward trail beneath the soaring north face of Mt Ama Dablam. The trail is relatively easy-going as we enter the Imja Valley that gradually widens as as we approach the Lobuche River. We descend down to the river and then face our steepest climb of the day while heading up to Dingboche. Dingboche is unique in that its fields are surrounded by stone walls, protected from grazing animals and strong winds, with crops of barley, buckwheat, and potatoes. Tonight we stay at Dingboche. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.
From Dingboche, there is a short hike to Chhukung, the final settlement of the Khumbu region around Imja Tse (also known as Island Peak) with its magnificent panorama of snowcapped mountains with Mt. Everest Three High Pass Trek 17 Days
Overview
This trek is jam-packed with places to see in the Sagarmatha National Park, Everest region of Nepal. It is a physically challenging 17-day trek that includes every major attraction you could hope to see in the Everest region; crossing three high altitude passes - Renjo La Pass (5388 m), Cho La Pass (5380 m) and Kongma La Pass (5535 m); trekking through picturesque valleys - Khumbu, Bhotekoshi, Gokyo, and Imja Tse; and unbelievable views and climbs of Mt. Gokyo Ri (5483m), Kala Pathar (5545m) and Chukung (5550m) before you reach the legendary Everest Base Camp – the gateway to Mt Everest (8848m), the world’s highest peak.
The list of places to see includes the stunning turquoise blue Gokyo Lakes (4,700–5,000m); Mt. Gokyo Ri (5357m); a visit to the rarely visited and remote trading route between Nepal and Tibet - Nangpa La Pass; a visit to the large Sherpa village of Marlung (4260m) and the Thame Tibetan Buddhist Monastery – the oldest in the Khumbu region and thought to have its origins in the 17th century. The monastery sits 200 meters above Thame on the side of Sumdur Mountain and offers some amazing views of the Himalayan Mountains. Imagine yourself surrounded by snow-capped mountains, alpine glaciers & a chance to see the elusive snow leopard, musk deer & red panda.
Lukla is the usual starting point, but if you have more time then you can start from Jiri, Lukla, Phaplu or Salleri. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking is happy to customize this trek to suit your time schedule. It is a challenging ascent to Dingboche (4410m), Kongma-La Pass (5535m) via Tengboche (3860 m) and Kongma La Pass (5550m). The views from these places are mind-blowing. Kongma-La Pass is the highest pass of these three passes. From Dingboche we ascend to higher elevations and after crossing Khongma-la via High Camp we reach Lobuche (4910 m) and then head to Gorekshep (5180m). Gorekshep is the cross-road where the trail leads to Kalapathar and Everest Base camp. For some of the best views of Mt. Everest we trek to the famous vantage point at Kala Pathar (5644m) - also referred to as ‘black rock”. It is a continual descent from here as we trek back to Gorekshep and on to Everest Base Camp (5364m) via Gorak Shep (51180m) At EBC we can look out at the Khumbu Glacier, the world’s highest and one that climbers have to pass through on their way to Mt. Everest.
From EBC we descend to Lobuche and then to Cho-La Pass (5420m), the trickiest of the three passes - starting near Lobuche Kharka and going through to Thangnak. On the trek to Thangnak Kharka via Dzongla (4830m) we view Awi Peak (5245m), Lobuche Peak, Nirekha Peak and others. We then head to Gokyo via the Gokyo Valley with its many lakes, after which we then ascend to Gokyo Ri (5420m) said to be the best viewpoint in the entire Himalayas in the Everest region. After leaving Gokyo Ri we head to High Camp via the Renjo-La Pass 5360m. As with Gokyo Ri, the Renjo-La Pass also provides fantastic views of the Himalayan Ranges. After leaving High Camp we head back down to Thame via Lungden (4380m) and Marlung (4210 m). As we descend more we come to Lukla, via Namche Bazaar, having completed the round-trip through the three high passes.
There is no better and more all-inclusive trek available in the Everest region. This trek is ideally suited to the more physically fit who are prepared to push themselves and venture to far-flung places and be physically challenged by the high altitude 3 passes. The best time of year to do this trek is in autumn (Sept to November) and spring (March to May) when there is less likelihood of being snowed-in and unable to finish the trek.
Sherpa Expedition Teams have more than 40 years in this business and will take care of every detail, such as permits, food and accommodation along the trail. All you have to do is have your camera at the ready!
Itinerary
This morning we will pick you up from your hotel and head to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu Airport for the 35-minute flight to Lukla landing on an airstrip overlooking the Dudh Koshi River. Today you will meet your guides and then head out on the trail with an easy trek descending to Phakding. We will pass numerous mani stones (form of prayer) which are stones carved in Tibetan script, and you will see many strings of prayer flags along the trail. We then arrive at our lodge situated on the banks of the Dudh Koshi River where we will stay overnight.
Today we cross and then re-cross bridges spanning the Dudh Kosi River passing several attractive villages, such as Toc-Toc, Benkar and Monjo before arriving at the Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate. Continuing along the river bed we come to the final bridge and then have a steep climb up to Namche Bazaar, a town with all modern facilities, such as pubs, internet cafes, post office and banks.
Namche Bazaar is an ideal place to acclimatize before heading to higher elevations. We have several options to stay active (highly recommended by health experts) with a short morning hike to Everest View Hotel or to the top of the hills above Namche for views of Everest, Amadablam and other snow-capped peaks. In Namche, we can also visit the museum.
From Namche, we follow the relatively easy trail down to the Imjatse River and then head up through rhododendron, pines, fir forests with views of many snow-covered peaks along the way. On reaching Tengboche we will visit the famous Buddhist monastery. From here we also have some fantastic views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Khangtega, Thamserku, Kwangde, and Amadablam.
This morning we follow the Imjatse River and then head uphill until we reach Pangboche Village (3,900m), the last permanent village before Dingboche. We will stop at Samara Village for our lunch break before climbing to Dingboche Village situated in the Imjatse Valley. It also has some great panoramic mountain views.
Today is another important day to acclimatize before climbing higher. A short trek to the Nagarjuna hills provides some stunning views of Mt. Makalu and will help us to acclimatize. Medical experts recommend being active rather than sitting idle when spending time during this process of acclimatization.
We have a short trek to Chhukung, the last settlement in the Khumbu region in the Imjatse Valley from where you have some great views of the snow capped Mt. Makalu in the east. We will arrive at Chhukung in the afternoon which will allow you free time to hike to Chhukung Ri for more fantastic views of the mountains and also help you further acclimatize.
Before dawn, we will head out along an icy path and then a rocky trail beneath Kongma-La Pass and Kongma Peak – also known as Mera Peak. We will cross Kongma-La Pass (5,535m) that is nestled between Mt Nuptse, Mohare and Pokalde peaks. After a hard climb to the Khumbu Glacier and moraine (rocky ground), we follow a steep trail up to the base of the Khumbu Glacier to arrive at Lobuche for an overnight stop at a lodge.
Again we get up early to trek to Kala Patthar a black rocky ridge (5,545m) that offers probably the best views of many peaks, especially a close up of Mt.Everest. We then head back to Gorakshep via the base of Cho-La Pass at Dzongla. We will stay overnight at Dzongla.
Another early start as we trek to Thangnak where we have a brilliant view of Mt Cholatse (6440m). Today is definitely the toughest day of our trek as we head to cross Cho-La Pass (5420m). On reaching the highest point of the valley we begin our trek through Cho La Pass that offers some stunning views of Chola Lake and Mt. Amadablam. The climbing can be hard going due to it being rocky ground and with rocks often covered in ice. After reaching the top of the pass we then descend to Thangnak – a much easier trek!
An early morning starts and we begin our trek to the small village of Gokyo at the base of Mt Gokyo. Along the trail, we will have some fantastic mountain views. After leaving Longponga (4720m) we continue uphill on a trail that leads to Gokyo with a magnificent view of Tanjung Tsho Lake (4710m). After a short walk along the edge of the Ngozumpa Glacier (36 km is the longest glacier of Nepal), we arrive at Gokyo Lake where we will stay overnight.
This morning we will climb to Mt. Gokyo Ri and get a panoramic view of some of the world’s highest peaks, including Mt. Cho Oyo, Gychung Kang, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Cholatse, Tawache and Mt. Makalu in the east. This is truly one of the highlights of this trek. We then descend to Gokyo. Option two is a trek to Gokyo’s 5th lake, about 5 hours on the trail, leading us to the base of Mt. Cho-Oyu - the world’s 6th highest mountain that borders Tibet. From here we will also have some incredible views of Mt. Everest, Changtse and the enormous glacier of Cho-Oyu.
Once again we are up before dawn as we head to our final high pass. We follow the trail at the end of Gokyo Lake and along the trail we are again blessed with more amazing views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse and Taboche, before crossing Renjo La Pass. This is also one of the most physically demanding sections of our trek, but once we reach the top we will be rewarded with magnificent 360 degree views of Mt. Cho-Oyu and other towering snow clad peaks. After a short rest we continue our trek to the frozen lakes below Renjo La Pass before heading on a long trek downhill to the tiny village of Lungdang – close to Nangpa-La Pass. The trail then leads to Marlung village where we stay for the night above the banks of the Bhote Koshi River.
Leaving Marlung we follow a steadily ascending trail until we reach Thame Village that has its own hydropower generator. On the trail we pass several Khumbu villages and pass through pine and rhododendron forests just prior to reaching Namche Bazaar. Our trek continues as we head back to Monjo near the Sagarmatha National Park check point where we stay the night.
Again we follow the trail back to Phakding on our final day of trekking. We should arrive at Lukla with time to spare, which will allow you to explore the village and surrounding countryside. You will take a breath and retrace this wonderful journey in your mind, go over your photos and catch up on emails to your family and friends. This is the time to pat yourself on the back and enjoy that feeling of accomplishing this physically demanding trek. In the evening you may decide to party a little and have a few celebratory drinks!
This morning we fly back to Kathmandu after our adventure into the Himalayan Mountains. After arriving in Kathmandu we can either rest or wander around Thamel doing some last-minute shopping.
